I don't think that Carter's speed is an issue - he is quick. Decision-making going into contact is a work-on as he has been held up in the tackle a few times. If you want some chaos and unpredictability on attack, he is your man.

He is quick but I am not sure he is top end quick if that makes sense - but then again nor is Sevu Reece.

He did play a bit of half-back for the Bay last season but only towards the ends of games, not really enough evidence to know if he could do it at test level.

I didn't have too much of a problem with that last try being given.

Blues v Tahs to determine who gets smoked by the Chiefs in the finals (unless Moana get up over the Canes).

@reprobate wait.... what do you mean? You're posting and it's not centred around the hurricanes? Unbelievable! Hurricanes is life and now I can't wind back from my first comment so I'll try brush it off by rolling out my favourite "well it's been let go before" bunk argument.

    Great watch, great result.

How Gardner didn't flash a YC for repeat infringements inside the 10m line by the Blues is beyond me.

Riccitelli got away with some no-arms tackles near the goal line. I've no idea how Gardner didn't see that.

They're playing "Slice Of Heaven" at the stadium, that's hilarious.

@SBW1 He only played a couple of preseason games for the Blues. He started 5 times for Canterbury in 21/22 and one for Auckland in round one of 23. So this was only his 7th start in first class rugby, plus 12 off the bench for the Canabs.

IMO I'm happy with the ref anouncing things like 'ruck' 'that's a maul' 'use it' but there should be no coaching. Takes me back to kiddies rugby, these guys are pros, the ref shouldn't be saying that.

As to thanking or praising players for pulling back from offending when told to do so by the ref - FFS

Ref coaching has been increasing massively. Ref should assess if it affects and penalise if it does.

@taniwharugby thought other than Ardies brilliance individual feats Apoua would have been close to player of the day

How the flying fuck is Gardner a referee? He said in real time it went backwards and he'd be the only person who thought that. On review "clear knock on".

@booboo Auckland has a similar amount of rainfall in a year to Cardiff and a bit more than Manchester which I think is why eventually they will need to build a stadium with a roof in Auckland.

Probably, even though I'd rather persist with the likes of Godfrey or Love at 10.

@Chris For a good part of the season you could construct a very strong "Missing XV" from injuries and gone from the previous year - have to play Richie at halfback. Would certainly have given what we were fielding a good drubbing.

    Brewis, Taylor, Williams
    Barrett, Whitelock
    Sione Havili, Blackadder, Dunshea
    Mo'unga, Burke
    Goodhue, Ennor
    Faingaánuku, Nanai, Jordan

The Canes have had just as many injuries this year and are still in contention so it’s not always just injuries. Every team goes through that.

Interestingly both the Crusaders and Canes really struggled when they had Hohepa at 10 for a long period. I think as long as you have key players in key positions then you can cope.

Good win in the end for Moana, staying in touch for a playoff spot.
