@frugby Renton was just straight dropped. But will be back after the bye. Fakatava is 50/50. Strained hammy today apparently.

You've got one of the best hit rates on this forum! Interesting about Renton. Almost like he was the insurance option if Jim didn't work as the primary captain. Good oil.

@Nepia dropped, 'rested' rotated out of the match day 23 for a game whatever you want to call it.
The coach himself said he was dropped for a game in the team meeting and gave him his list of work ons.
Hastie was KOd in the team run so Landers could be scraping the halfback barrel if Hastie & FF are ruled out

To me they're different. Dropped for poor performance is different than rested/rotated to allow rest time/another player to get game time.

Dropped and "rested" are probably the same though.

To me they're not, what if the player is to be rested on a schedule? Three games and then a rest? I don't think that is being dropped.

But I guess it's all just semantics really.

There's a distinction to be made between rested and "rested".

The difference between dropped and rested, will be if Broughton plays well and gets dropped for the round five game against the Hurricanes. Then Renton was rested. If Broughton plays well, and is retained. Renton was dropped. If Broughton has an average game, and Renton comes back, we don't really know...

I could plausibly believe Renton was dropped, because he gave away a dumb penalty and then was hooked, but again I can categorically say there is a hip niggle too…

I suspect this is might be a situation where the niggle is a good excuse to give someone else a run. Both can probably be true.

from what little ive seen of renton i very much doubt he would want to keep his spot just because he was named captain, if other put their hand up i think he would give then a boost, he is very much moving into the group of players that seem to "get it", not just their for the paycheck

so, if its rest...no issue....if other are surpassing him....no issue...if its just trying to build depth...no issue

Article in the ODT seems to suggest it is a bit of both - probably more onus on the fact he has been dropped (which is what the evidence suggests) but he is also battling niggles, which have contributed to a slow start to the season.

For the first time in a long time, it is a case of who do we have to leave out, rather than who should we play.

Broughton has had two great cameos, Withy has been outstanding, responding to missing out on the captaincy really well.

Only position there is no real competition is prop, but overall the picture is great.

Disappointing for Folau. He has been good. Another good opportunity for Nath Hastie

If Hastie was KO’d at training it’s weird that the Landers would say today he’s now starting. If it comes out that Hastie is out for the game, Adam Lennox would come on to the bench with Arscott being the starter.

@Landers92 I actually thought Lennox may have come onto the bench anyway...

@Landers92 he was definitely on rubber leg street after copping a Naeata forearm on the chin tryna tackle him.
Maybe he passed the head knock protocol checks? 🤷

@Nogusta haha classic. Would be the biggest hit he’s put on this season. Hopefully Hastie is all good, don’t like the thought of Arscott being thrown in.

@Landers92 I actually thought he was handy in his 26 minutes last week... but the stats say 2 carries and 2 tackles in that time... he was a last minute addition after they couldn't get Tengbald for this season, but supposedly he has impressed in training.

Unless injuries hit, I don't really see him having much involvement from here on though.
