Pretty good effort. Strong defence and good discipline, both in terms of penalties and sticking to the game plan. Attack still a little clunky

Good performance from the Blues. I thought Moana were a shot today but they had no answer to the Blues set piece and Barrett's game management in general. Blues intensity in defence was a lot better today too, something that has been missing for a lot of this season so far. Fair play to Moana too, well outplayed but fought to the end.

It might get adjusted later, but Dalton had 18 tackles and no misses. Last week was 25 also at 100%

@African-Monkey the selection of JGB ahead of Pellegrini was odd for Moana ,i think they lack a quality 15 and centre .
They have got some fight but pretty ground down by the Blues ,they needed to be right in the fight in terms of the scoreboard going into the last 15 minutes but for all intensive purposes, they were pretty much toast early in the second half ..
Thought Lam was outstanding in his 50th

@Steven-Harris I reckon Havili is quality, not his best game today though.

Is Williams a school teacher in his spare time?

Another ex-halfback. He is there to make Doleman look competent.

Very good prediction for the starting loose trio. Always with the good oil.

Is he a possible 6 for abs?

@Machpants Yes, but I think 7 is the position he is best suited for.

@Tim enjoy seeing him run hard at the line too, drawing defenders.

Played very much like a blindside today, Segner looked like the openside.

Finally got around to watching the game

    • Riccitelli makes an enormous difference to the Blues. By far their best hooker

    • Beehre's workrate is seriously impressive. He has an engine

    • Best performance the Blues have got out of their loosies all year

    • Beauden's strong form at 10 this year continues

    • Lam showing how good he can be

    • Assuming there wasn't an off field issue - benching Pellegrini for JGP was just idiotic. Another example of a coach overthinking it

    • Blues were finally able to defend without giving away a penalty every 2 phases. Impressive physicality

Can't see the Blues getting that set piece dominance next week vs Crusaders but pleasing they delivered their best performance of the season to keep their hopes alive

Yeah agree with all of that. We won't win next week, as we seem to have some sort of phobia when we come up against them, but there is hope of making the top 6, which if we did, I'd consider a success after the awful start we made.

Surpised Moana are going with Garden-Bachop and Matavao as their 9-10 this week. I would have backed them to win this, but with those 2 there, it's cause for concern imo. Matavao is a good 20 minute player, but doesn't have a great kick or a great pass. I refer to him as the Samoan Fin Christie for a reason as he's virtually a clone of his (doesn't defend as well as Christie though). Garden Bachop, although he made a positive impact last week coming on, makes me nervous coming on and isn't in the same class as Pellegrini.

Totally agree. Ridiculous that Pellegrini was dropped to the bench. Matavao was there by default due to the injury to Taumateine but yeah he's bang average in 15s.
