my reasoning for backing Northland was, well, I didn't...I think I have twice this season and maybe 1 time last year, got burnt enough to think if we win, sweet, if not, at least I'll get points in the more important TSF tipping comp!

With just 2 rounds left, time for some deep analysis.

Strangely enough, the top 4 teams and semi-finalists are the same teams as last season - and they finished in the same positions. Wairarapa Bush were unbeaten last season and haven't lost yet this season, their draw with Wellington last week was the closest they have come to defeat. The last time they lost a game was the 2014 final, 30-29 to Wellington.

Onto the individual battle - let's review the top 10 (11) and their prospects.

Stargazer 330. New to tipping but 4th in Super tipping and won the TSF Cup and so must still be a chance in this comp. May be a little far back to win.
Dogmeat 330. Has been in every tipping comp with little success to date. Was flirting with the lead earlier in the season and immediately collapsed.
Hydro11 334. The reigning Super tipping champ who has struggled for consistency this time around.
Hurrycanes 336. Always near the top with a 6th place finish in Super tipping - can't be ruled out.
Virgil 336. Has had the odd good season but may find this too lofty a position to hold onto.
Gunner 338. Rose sharply by predicting a Northland win last week. Can he carry that momentum onwards?
Victor 340. 2nd overall in NPC last season and in 2013 - has to be a good bet to go one better this time.
Plastered Peni 346. Has done well in NPC in the past, never been in the top 3 though and may fall away?
Triple T 349. Top 10 finish in Super tipping and last season's NPC - part of the Bush team pushing to retain their title.
Joan and Mary 352. Has been in every comp and has only rarely had a top 10 finish - surely this is a step too far?
Broughie 357. Crashed from the top in Week 5 and then hauled himself back up. Had strong seasons in the last 2 tipping comps. His to lose I reckon with points in the bag.

20 minutes into the weekend and the scorelines read like the half-times in the football. Easy to list who picked a winner correctly.

    Manawatu: Unite, Justin77, FarNthHayden
Ta$man: Bay Imports, African Monkey, Phooey, Corkscrew

Absentee tippers are Hooroo, Midge and Chaz - still time to submit your tips as most people are still on zero.

    Wairarapa Bush 0 - 1 BOP
    Hawke's Bay 0 - 2 South Island
    Harbour-Auckland 0 - 0 Wellington
    Counties-Waikato 2 - 2 Northland

    Gunner 0 v 0 Langakali
    Hurrycanes 0 v 0 Joan and Mary

I won't post the top 10 given that none of them have scored a point yet.

Half-time in the semi-finals and BOP have sneaked into a narrow lead as the Bush showed some love for Northland. HB and South are locked in a tie. 20-20 apiece in both the Cup semi-finals so titanic second halves in prospect. Joan and Mary have edged ahead of Broughie overall as Broughie backed Northland but the gap is still only a single result across the top 3.

For the week so far, African Monkey and Justin77 lead with 25.

    Wairarapa Bush 16 - 17 BOP
    Hawke's Bay 18 - 18 South Island
    Harbour-Auckland 15 - 16 Wellington
    Counties-Waikato 15 - 17 Northland

    Gunner 20 v 20 Langakali
    Hurrycanes 20 v 20 Joan and Mary

    Joan and Mary 372
    Broughie 369
    Plastered Peni 366
    Triple T 361
    Gunner 358
    Hurrycanes 356
    Virgil 356
    Victor 352
    Hydro11 346
    Dogmeat 345

@KiwiPie I guess Northland shot their wad last week and decided they needed to get a losing streak running again. Pack of losers.

well if you'd had any sense you coulda checked that only 2 of the Northland tippers picked us to win (and one has done that every week anyway) to realise that we were no show...think it has been about 13 or 14 years since we have won down there as well

@taniwharugby Hey I thought they had maybe turned a corner and could feed off their success last week. I gave them too much credit and I forgot they wear that god awful powder blue jersey.

60 minutes in and the Bush are back in the lead through the whole team backing Counties while BOP were 50/50. HB and South are still locked together but South have more of a spread with Phooey on 39 and ACT back on 12. The minor placing games are also tied so far.

Waynes World looks to have a decisive lead in the TSL Cup while Higgins and Plastered Peni are tied. Overall Plastered Peni has gone into the lead but only 5 points cover the top 4.

    Wairarapa Bush 30 - 27 BOP
    Hawke's Bay 27 - 27 South Island
    Harbour-Auckland 25 - 25 Wellington
    Counties-Waikato 25 - 25 Northland

    Waynes World 32 v 22 Richie
    Higgins 35 v 35 Plastered Peni

    Plastered Peni 381
    Joan and Mary 379
    Broughie 376
    Triple T 376
    Victor 367
    Hurrycanes 363
    Virgil 363
    Gunner 360
    Phooey 356
    Hydro11 353

Everything is up to date online now

Only 9 points cover the top 5 going into the final weekend - all to play for so make sure you tip on time. Broughie and Triple T are level on top.

3 of the 4 games ended up level which is unusual.

Wairapara Bush beat BOP by virtue of their top 5 scoring 179 to 178 which is about as close as you can get - except that South Island and Hawke's Bay finished dead level on 175 apiece and South Island go through because their non-scorer ACT scored 27 to Stargazer's 24.

Harbour-Auckland beat woeful Wellington and Northland scraped past four man Counties-Waikato 172-169.

Langikali is into the final of the TSF Cup - he will play the winner of Hurrycanes v Joan and Mary - that match is decided by whichever gets ahead first in the final week.

    Higgins 50

Right we finally have some points in Week 9 - if you didn't know, a draw means zero for everyone. Most went for the Naki although a fair few went 9-16. A one point lead to Wairarapa Bush over the South Island based on 3 maximums against 2 but not much between them.

Joan and Mary is in the TSL Cup final having scored 10-7 against Hurrycanes to win the semi-final replay - and now leads in the final.

Overall, this is heading for the tightest finish ever - a 3 way tie at the top, 4th 2 points behind and 5th 4 further back. 3 of them are going for a narrow away win tomorrow night, 2 are going for a narrow home win so something will give.

    Wairarapa Bush 9 - 8 South Island
    Hawke's Bay 7 - 9 BOP
    Harbour-Auckland 4 - 8 Northland
    Wellington 6 - 9 Counties-Waikato

    Langakali 7 v 10 Joan and Mary

    Broughie 393
    Triple T 393
    Plastered Peni 393
    Joan and Mary 391
    Victor 387
    Gunner 377
    Virgil 375
    Hurrycanes 372
    Higgins 372
    Phooey 368
