Auckland v Northland

When the NARU was formed, the Kaipara district union (Helensville) was included.
They played in the Harding Shield comp.
North Auckland's first AB (Charlie Fletcher) came out of the Kaipara district.
Fletcher played for the Waimauku club, just down the road from Kumeu. -

Omaha
Where was the Omaha club? IIRC, there's a league club near point wells now? Rodney Rams off Leigh Rd?
The first question I was going to ask myself.
The latter 2, yes and yes.
-
@Tim
Yes, they were based at the Whangateau Domain/Reserve when we played them.
I can remember one game being called off slightly early due to a combination of a king tide and strong easterly winds. The waves were making things a bit sporty at one end of the field. -
Just noted Laly Haddon also played for Omaha; he was a Jonah Lomu type; could play No 8 or winger.
Played for NZ Maori a lot.
Also, how times have changed. When he is mentioned nowdays; his nickname is noted as "Tracker."
For the historical record . . . in his playing days he was known as "Black Tracker." Very unPC.
I think he got the tag because he was big and fast, and as a No 8 he used to track across field in cover defence; and smash some poor winger into touch. -
Evans luckynhe didn't touch that ball

Brilliant skills by Vai but he doesn't have great wheels.
That's what I was surprised about. Nock had the angle, but you'd expect a winger like Vai to have easily made the corner.
-
Impressed with his change of hands to go for.the corner, a long lost skill

I'm not that surprised watching Vai in 7s - skilful player but not great pace - AB men's 7s not exactly known for their pace in recent years

Is Tito-Harris similar being a carthorse or does he have Tangitau like speed?

Speaking of Tangitau, anyone know when he'll be back playing?
