This Auckland side seem to just rely on individual brilliance. Frustrating team to watch

Surely Bates' tenure is now untenable?

It's some of Auckland's SR players that aren't leading from the front.

I don't know how Ta'avao is still a professional player.

Funaki and Lam were poor in the 1st half too.

    Congrats Taniwha.

Wish we could dig up the old thread from that 2008 match.

I believe only the 6th win at Eden Park for Northland / Nth Auckland in 90 years.

    Congrats Northland fans

Some good attacking play by both teams.

I think the bloom is off the rose for Taele - he even looks too small for midfield at this level - does some nice things but not nearly enough.

A winless season for Auckland I think is more likely than not at this stage.

Enjoy watching Tito Harris and Tangitau in space is electric

This is the best one - look how much talent was in that Auckland side and Northland has Rupeni

AUCKLAND vs NORTHLAND at Eden Park in 2001. Another great game, Northland had the Fijian flyer Rupeni Caucaunibuca on one wing showing his electrifying pace. With time up on the clock Northland...

Well, looking at the teams on paper that's the result you'd expect; but the Taniwha dont usually do it that way.

A bit off topic; didn't watch the game; went to a local club semi-final . . . and Pesi Leilua scored the match winner!

@kev both the 2001 and 2008 Auckland lineups were littered with ABs.

@mohikamo yep, i tipped auckland to win and will happily wear that, even TAB had Auckland as reasonable favourites to win, and while the scoreline was comfortable in the end, it was sure squeaky bum stuff just after half time where the expected capitulation looked on for all money.

@taniwharugby had a catch up with the team after dropping the boys off last night was impressed how chilled they were after what was a convincing win in the end
No real celebration but just a looks of satisfaction that the plans that were implimented came to fruition
Some top performances from several individuals none more so than Allen Craig and Corey Evans
Also thought the loose forward trio was superb ,Henan was a constant nuisance at breakdown
Pasitoa played possibly his best game since arriving , have a bit of info on him which i will put the Highlanders thread
Alaimalo also since returning to the Taniwha played his best game

Really liked the impact that came from the bench ,Apoua and Fono are strong scrumagers and there was a sense they could gain an upper hand in that area
Thought Auckland did well to get themselves back to a one score game but pleased that the Taniwha reasserted themselves and did’nt panic
A great platfirm to work with moving forward

Being there live , Caleb Tangitau is bloody rapid , glad Auckland did’nt start him

@Steven-Harris yellow aside, best game I've ever seen from Brady Rush, but yea thought Evans and Craig were very good, as were all our loosies, that ball from Rush to Reihana was a peach.

Several others had some good touches mixed with some poor patches, a couple of players struggled still with thier handling yet again.

Really liking the arc of of Fono, developing into a fine player, seems incredibly strong and his combo with Apoua seems good too.

    @taniwharugby

Shouldn't forget the bookies are playing a game as well.

Liked Harris's after match observations; Taniwha have played a poor mental game for years. Looks like they're starting to show a bit more composure, on and off the field.

Good to see Pasitoa start to show a bit of form too; played rugby four weeks in a row; first time he's done that for awhile I think.

What I thought was really good was the way the team carried and then defended. They were also very good last week - rolling up their sleeves in the tight. Very impressive.

Hats off to Rivez. It was clear with the Crusaders they were asking him to carry more. It’s such a great asset to now have a first five that runs straight and hard at gaps close to the ruck - the All Blacks need that from their first five. That attitude paid off with the try that sealed the game - great work from Rob Rush ( playing well ) with Rivez running at gaps with intent.

Always special beating Auckland. Lots of players stood up.

    @taniwharugby

If I was Martin i'd be working on their head game more than anything else.

It looks like Manawatu and Southland are starting to play with smarts as well.

Pasitoa has been pretty much injured the last couple of seasons. The locals in Perth talk him up (he is a Perth junior), and are disappointed the Force let him go. The Force strongly favor their juniors and probably would have let him go sooner if he wasn't a local. But I'm thinking they'd just as easily take him back for the same reason; if he is injury free and showing a bit.
