Blues vs. Chiefs 2026

That pass from Beehre was absolutely rubbish and he does that fairly regularly. Funny how people are pouncing on Nock when we should have never been in that position with a decent pass.

Letting Tupou Va'ai climb over that maul while we were on attack was unforgivable

How about Nock just oblivious to getting the ball out from the maul earlier? He's been a professional 9 for a decade. Just no brains.

Not really cause for panic though. A real early season clash where both sides were all over the place. Both teams probably didn't deserve to win but someone had to.
Was like a pre season game still, both teams will be better for the run.

@African-Monkey both teams poor, both can be expected to improve considerably.

They would need to. That was proper wooden spoon battle stuff.

How did Barnes look!?

@nostrildamus very good

My broadcast was horribly disrupted by weather. Bit scrappy. But some clever plays from Tupou Vaai had real impact. Luke J Boshier and Finau all seemed to go well. I hope Josh J gets his mojo back next game. He left a few points out there.
Nice touches from Zarn and Clarke for Blues.

Thought the quality was low last night too. A few more big moments in that game covered up dross in between

I'll take the win but it's hard for teams to look slick with a limited pre-season, and some players returning with no games behind them. Thompson will be relieved that his two penalties didn't cost the Chiefs the game.
When both teams are tackling at 90%+ there aren't going to be many try-scoring opportunities.
Happy that Cook-Savage had an impact in the short time he was on the field.

That really wasn't a looker. The quality was much lower than HEC and lower than Top 14, URC or Gallagher Premiership. If that's really the best NZ Rugby can offer, we're in trouble.
Chiefs won't care though. Winning ugly is still winning.

Weird take for the first round and only one game. You sure that every game in every round of those comps is an absolute scorcher?
Yeah, nah.
