Fatbusting: Kirwan's log
-
Good workout today. Strength work was 3 x 70kg Push Press (my PB, and now equal top in the class with the trainer). WOD was evil, 9kg Medicine Ball thrown from a squat, thruster type movement to a ten foot line on the wall. 150 times. Took 15:33, should been a few minutes quicker than that but my back started complaining so i had to go in sets of ten.

Well done dude, big improvement there already ! Super stuff. -
despite being knackered from workouts, you must be loving getting fit and feeling good again. At our trainiers the other day she was looking at Ness and ym early photos, including the before we started ones. I look ten years older in that photo than i do now. And I felt it to - would play a game of touch, and take two days to recover. Now life is sooo much easier being fit and not carrying around those extra kilos.<br />
<br />
You've done super well K, good on you. Now if I could get 130kg plus prop Cyril onto this kick so he can watch his kids grow up, sigh. -

Thats the real kicker if you ask me. Scary how many dudes I know around my age who huff and puff trying to play with the kids. Running round with my old man when I was little was one of the real highlights of growing up and I want to provide my boys with the same experience. On another note I was giving my three year old son a pretend hiding in the living room and my other boy ( just turned one ) ran into me and smashed me. Now granted I didn't move but if the intent is there ( it was the kind of hit Owen Franks would have been proud of ) at that age when they're 18 and 16 I can picture myself getting some real hidings if I'm not up to the challenge !!! -
Thanks, yeah it's night and day compared to how I felt last October. I was struggling to get out of bed for 8am, was tired all day, struggling to get through work, chores and kid duties, let alone anything else.<br />
<br />
Now I'm waking up before my alarm at 5:40am twice a week, doing an hour solid workout, and at my desk for 8am full of energy. Even the other days, I'm up around 7am really to roll. I'm doing way more during the day that previously, I've even been helping out the sister in law with some landscaping, which would have killed me before.<br />
<br />
My Father died at 45 (of Cancer) which is getting scarily close to my age now, and I'm determined to make sure I'm around longer for my kids.<br />
<br />
And MN5, my "moment of clarity" was puffing walking up my driveway. Unbelievable really. -
I am brutal with Cyril, tell him I'll look after his kids when he's gone. He's jjust turned 40 and is a heart attack waiting to happen.
<br />
<br />
I guess it takes different things to motivate different people though, it'll take something that makes that "real" for him to want to change. -
My Grandad died at 68 from Cancer as well. Fit as a fiddle and lean as anything ( he was a boxing champ and track and field star in Scotland ) but smoked about 80 a day. My old man is a year younger than that and certainly intends to be around for a shitload longer than that ! <br />
<br />
Bart I remember photos of prop cyril having lost loadsa weight, what happened ? -
he's always struggled, and his wife is also overweight, and dare I sterotype, a bread and butter maori chick. his Mum, also a BBMC. Bought up on steak and eggs for breakfast sort of bloke (I LOVED going around there, food for africa)....<br />
<br />
SO until he gets the support from the better half, he will always struggle. Loves a beer or twenty too. -
Fight Gone Bad. Today's WOD, and amusingly named it is. 3RFT of Row, Wall balls, Sumo highpull, box jumps, push press with 1min rest in between. As many reps as you get in a minute, all at Rx weights and heights, add up your reps + calories rowed = 215 for me today. Today's workon to take away is my box jumps, really slowed down on those.<br />
<br />
Strength work was 1xDeadlift, which I worked up to 130kg and failed on my attempt at 140kg. If I wasn't so greedy, I'd have a 135ish to my name. Still a PB though, 10kg improvement there on last time. The 120kg just cruised up, I remember really struggling on that. -
Oh, and the wife cooked my up some steak sandwiches. I just smashed those down <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Good effort on the DL's mate, that is a significant increase from your last best lift. Just updated my thread as I've found a cross fit gym in Wellington city - going to check it out. They do a free session as an intro - I'll have a good read through your thread again to see what I might be dealing with!<br />
<br />
21-28yrs or so I was overweight. I was still playing sports and reasonably strong (and at times fit-ish) but knew I could be doing a lot more for my health. These days I want to lay the foundation for a great quality of life now and as I get older. Definitely want to be able to run around with the (future) kiddies. I'm really proud of my cousin who's in his early 20's. He's transformed himself into a runner and rugby player after being unhealthy and overweight.<br />
<br />
You've got to make the most of it that's for sure!! -
Cycled back around to the 5 x 5 Thrusters today. Put 12.5kg on my previous best, to get up to 62.5kg and join the trainer at the top of the board (sooo tempting to try for 65kg but I would have failed at that, so got my weight on the board this time).<br />
<br />
I think the workout today was Daniel. Pullups were scaled; 25(instead of 50) pullups, 400m row, 21 x 30kg Thrusters, 800m row, 21 x 30kg Thrusters, 400m row, 25 pullups. I killed the thrusters, was really happy with those, did decent pullups for the first round and jumping pullups for the second. 17min 34sec.<br />
<br />
Last time I'm allowed to use the jumping pullups, all kipping pullups from here, so the workouts are going to take longer while I sort that out. I can only do three in a row of those at the moment. -
Sorry to torment you in your food deprived state.<br />
<br />
Really close to spewing this morning <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> Was an upper body workout today, and we finished early so I did a tabata squat sequence (8 x 20sec, got 14) and I was toast. Chest was worked to failure over five sets of 50kg, as many reps as I could do. Same with a modified pullup workout with the ring dips, and then I finished off my legs. Had a huge pump going for that.<br />
<br />
Still sore a few hours later! Today I hit my record number of workouts in a month (since November). I did 16 in February, made up of runs, rows and cycling. This month is made up of 15 xFit sessions and one 5km run, a much higher workload. Have at least two more to complete this week, maybe three. -
Nah, I could never eat well enough to do that. That's a special kind of discipline, huge mental toughness.<br />
<br />
My aim is to end up looking athletic, feel fit, and have lots of energy. Oh, and be strong, am liking that - and that's never bothered me before.
