    Anyone else pick up Jordies issue's in the tackle. His technique seems off and was only just fortunate a couple times there with glancing efforts just doing enough. Outside of that though he has a hell of a lot of upside to him.

      Yes, I noticed it as well. His tackling should be a big work-on, but other than that, what a talent!

        Hmmm, so can Scott and Kane (is he the other Barrett?) tackle? As much credit as Smiley gets for producing his boys he gets a big negative for their defensive abilities. I assume some time in the ABs will iron out JB deficiencies like they mostly did with BB.

          They used to say big bro Beauden was shit at tackling a while ago. No problem!!

            Now I have no clue about tackling people from behind as I have never been fast enough to catch anyone, but seems like both BB and JB have no issue with getting guys from behind but mostly front on by getting caught on a slightly bad body position/on their heels(now that is something I know about haha) BB less so nowadays.

            Reckon Jordie, being a big lad, will get good enough coaching to fix any impending flaws in his game.

              There are 5 Barrett sons and 3 younger daughters. Kane is the eldest (played for the Blues, but had stop playing due to serious injury), then Beauden, Scott and Jordie. Not sure whether Blake Barrett (who, I think, has played age-grade rep rugby in Taranaki, but didn't make it to NPC level) is older or younger than Scott. Scott's tackle success rate is definitely higher, much higher, than Beauden en Jordie's, but could be a bit better compared to the best NZ locks.

              Edited to add:
              As far as they mean anything, their Super Rugby stats for tackle success rate thus far:
              Scott 82.8%, Beauden 56.3%, Jordie 36.4%;
              other full-backs: DMac 94.1%, Dagg 83.3%, Collins 71.4%, BFA 66.7%
              other first-fives: West 81.8%, Cruden 77.1%, Hunt 76.9%, Sopoaga 75%
              other locks: Fatialofa 92.3%, Retallick 88.6%, Whitelock 87.5%, Bird 86.1%
              Team averages: Blues 86.1%, Highlanders 85.7%, Hurricanes 85.6%, Crusaders 84.7% and Chiefs 83.4%

                There were a few technical flaws in Jordies defence but they can be ironed out , the positive part about his defence , for a kid he has an aggressive attitude to tackling

                  Looking at the highlights again he is an absolute giant compared to the other backs. Kinda like a gangly teenager who hasn't quite grown into his body yet.

                                  Thread diversion here but on those stats Dmac has the highest % success in the tackle yet the common comment is that he is too small to play with the big boys.

                                    I would think he will easily end up around 105 kilos

                                    Going to be a fantastic 12

                                    Having two of these Barretts in the same backline is so damn cool. If Jodie can continue in this fashion and they both stay injury free they are going to wreck havoc on teams for the next 5 years.

                                    Not very concerned about tackling, but it must be hard for Jordie to get that ridiculous giraffe like frame into position to tackle. Once he fills out and gets some more experience under his belt he will be an absolute beast.

                                    I haven't been this excited about a player since Cullen.

                                      Hmmm, so can Scott and Kane (is he the other Barrett?) tackle? As much credit as Smiley gets for producing his boys he gets a big negative for their defensive abilities. I assume some time in the ABs will iron out JB deficiencies like they mostly did with BB.

                                      Scott 82.8%, Beauden 56.3%, Jordie 36.4%;
                                      other full-backs: DMac 94.1%, Dagg 83.3%, Collins 71.4%, BFA 66.7%
                                      other first-fives: West 81.8%, Cruden 77.1%, Hunt 76.9%, Sopoaga 75%
                                      other locks: Fatialofa 92.3%, Retallick 88.6%, Whitelock 87.5%, Bird 86.1%
                                      Team averages: Blues 86.1%, Highlanders 85.7%, Hurricanes 85.6%, Crusaders 84.7% and Chiefs 83.4%

                                      Thread diversion here but on those stats Dmac has the highest % success in the tackle yet the common comment is that he is too small to play with the big boys.

                                      @Crucial I noticed that too. I thought he was a poor defender?

                                      Also shows how stats can be meaningless. The Chiefs have the worst team tackle success rate and the Blues the best, but guess who has conceded the most points of the two teams?

                                        I don't want to be a party pooper and there is no doubt that Jordie of the Barretts has some real talent but I haven't seen the same level of acceleration, tackle avoidance or eye for a chance that came with BB or has been seen from Ben Smith.
                                        Early days yet and I probably be proved wrong.

                                          I wonder whether his height might be/become a disadvantage in this respect?
                                          If he becomes a bit heavier, they could change him into a forward when they move Ardie to the midfield 😛
