First session back since holidays. Pleased to see I only added approx 1kg over the break. Vast amounts of beer are likely to get the blame for that!!

Legs feel knackered already. I know my hammies will be screaming come tomorrow. But things are underway again with the training.

Set up for Fri and Sun sessions now. Another goal is trying to sneak a run in between em!

fark - first DL session for ages. Knackered!! Rest of the workout was ok. Definitely lost my edge from last year but a bit of hard work should sort that out!

Solid workout last night. Squats, core, shoulders and bench. Legs and chest don't feel too bad today, it's nice to get that "I haven't been to the gym for ages" soreness out of the way!!

DLs, bench, triceps and biceps today. Was warming up on light DL's and had a bit of pain at the top of the right buttock (as Forrest would say). Thought I was warmed up ok but that set me back. I was going to push through and up weight etc but decided to go easy. Only had 2 DL sessions since starting back up after the hols so taking it easy.

Bench was much better - back up to 3 full sets at 100 so I won't be far off increasing back to 105. Did 3 sets of dips and similar for curls - both till failure. Will be doing some building with the neighbour in 15-20min or so too - I love daylight savings!! Gym again on Friday or sat morning. Next week is a bit more settled work-wise so 2-3 gym sessions lined up.

Had an enforced break from the gym recently - been building a retaining wall and fence with the neighbour during all available daylight! Have to say all the gym work has paid off - a bit of soreness but digging, lifting, etc has been sweet as. Itching to get back to the gym asap. I'm away for 2 weeks in March so the start of this year has been terrible for my workout routine.

On a related note my eating habits are improving out of sight. Have adopted oats for breakfast - either soaked in water/milk or mixed raw with yoghurt/fruit. It's habit now and easy to manage. The wife and I have been eating better for lunch and dinner as well. Taking a bit more time to prepare lunch when you are cooking dinner isn't a big deal and helps avoid eating crap! plus it saves $$ too.

Can't wait to have both gym and eating cranking at the same time.

Another two full days of working on the retaining wall - not quite as much digging but plenty of lifting etc. Off to the gym tonight for squats/core/bench/arms - pretty knackered but I'm going to bite the bullet and get stuck in. Body has been feeling good with all the work but def amping to get my gym buzz on.

managed to sneak in a gym session tonight. FInished the retaining wall last weekend so it's been nice to have evenings off!!

Squats, core, back, standing shoulder press, bench and biceps/triceps. Def well off the pace but it was good to have a hit out. Away heaps over the next couple of weeks so its unlikely I'll get to the gym much. Will take my gear and try and sneak in a run or something.

My eating is much better - have gone in a notch on the belt. TOtally keen to amp up my gym work and really get the most out of my improved attitude to kai.

DL's, speed bench, Arnie shoulder press tonight. Hammies were sore after squats yesterday. I'm away for a couple of weeks now so that'll slow things down. Hoping I might sneak into one of the Les Mills gyms up in akld. Otherwise it'll be all go once I'm back home.

What are ya doing in Auckland mate? And where abouts you gonna be?

Might be able to sort you out a weeks trial pass at one of my gyms branches in the city. City one isn't great but I've worked out there before and was surely better than nada.

Central city-ish for next week but the wedding I'm off to is up north in Warkworth. I'm going to check out where the Les Mills gyms are in the city. Truth be told I probably will be too busy to get along. Might try for a run or two though!

Yeah ya lose it but regain it pretty quick as long as you don't overtrain !

They reckon it takes about 2 weeks training to recover from 1 week off. Seemed to take about that for me.

True but sometimes you bounce back even stronger if you time it right, giving the muscles time to recover and all of that.

Yeah, since Xmas my training has been pretty piecemeal - a few workouts here and there trying to keep some sort of base. I know I'll ramp back up to pre-Xmas levels. Really want to crack 170+ in both squats and DLs!

After holidays, fieldwork and travel delays (I'm looking at you Wellington airport!) things are back to normal-ish. Gym tomorrow night. I'm going to get back to my initial 2 day programme, kind of feels like starting over. Haven't been for nearly 3 weeks so I'm amping to get back into a routine.

Re the deadlifts dude it might be coincidence but I flagged them for awhile ( ie a few months actually ) and did lots of chins/pull ups over that period. Thanks to that I came back and ripped out a PB on the good old deadlift. Bit of food for thought anyway !

lol I don't think I'll be gunning for any PBs tonight bro! Have several cubic metres of concrete waste to move over the weekend so I'll be working into it slowly!

But I am super keen to see how quickly I can get my edge back. I reckon 2 weeks of solid work and I'll be getting there. Maybe it's age (certainly not wisdom!) but I've got an idea of how to get back up to speed without damaging myself too badly!

cross training day today! shifted 3m3 of broken up concrete from the back yard to a skip out front. Utterly shagged!! Hopefully the arms and back won't be knackered for the gym tomorrow. I wonder how much weight I shifted?? felt like a lot!

    Found a volume/weight calculator online. 1m3 = approx 2400kg! so that's about 3000kg shifted. No wonder I'm totalled lol
