The pace in attack and aggression at the breakdown was good to watch. Blues passive in defence and then the attack seemed flat-footed. West standing so deep doesn't help.

@ACT-Crusader He's so hesitant on attack. It was really noticable in this game.

My 4 year old gets quite upset when the Blues lose. We didn't watch the game today, and I don't think I'll mention the result to him for fear of permanent psychological damage.

I can't help but laugh a bit. At least the Chiefs have mostly been shit through history but this Blues team is fucking hopeless.
How does a team in this real estate be so fucking poke for so long?

@Hooroo The board don't hire proven coaches. There have probably been a lot of things going on behind the scenes too. IIRC, apparently the board wouldn't pay for a specialist defence coach/analyst in Lam's final season.

Having not seen the game but just the scoreline, I'm assuming the Blues Cheerleaders played the Japanese National Side.

No, if the cheerleaders had played, they would have demonstrated flair and skill and the ability to string together a series of successful moves.
Considering the player base, the facilities, and the financial resources available in NZ's largest city, the Blues are a fucking disgrace. Something very rotten in an organisation that lurches from one clusterfuck to the next. The fans and sponsors deserve better than this dross. The wonderful Lions win aside, the team has very little to show for the season, yet again. Is it mainly the series of coaches they've had? Or something deeper? Cos DAMN.

@Mokey you could argue it runs a bit deeper than the Blues given the Warriors seem to have similar issues.

Given how many coaches we've had, you can't blame the coach either. There seems to be a problem with administration and player attitude. I don't know how to sovle it, but we bloody should. We're a joke.

Interesting reading this thread having said that. I thought the Blues had done pretty well this season in a very tough NZ conference but 1 shocker at the end of the season seems to have ruined what wasn't a terrible season up until yesterday.

Heat definitely a factor. Scheduling an issue perhaps but if you're playing in Japan at that time of year, best to play at night. Chichibunomiya does have lighting from memory as once went to watch Suntory play on a Friday night but it seldom seems to get used.
Still the Blues made about 10 errors in the 5 minutes of the game I watched. Woeful.

This is true but the Blues have been the worst team in New Zealand for five of the past six seasons. The Highlanders had a shocker that season and the Blues only won six games.
