Pushing Tin - Paekakboyz Training Log
-
Well work was mental today - so instead of a run I picked up some Asahi and am looking forward to Wgtn v BOP. Thought it was post worthy in light of the recent booze threads on TSF. Someone has to sacrifice clean living and keep the binge (lol all of 4 beers probably!) drinking rugby culture alive!!! Don't worry lads, I'll take the bullet so you can power onward <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />

Asahi arggggghhh ( in a Homer voice )<br />
<br />
I remember demolishing 48 one night with a Pommy fella who was house sitting with me ( we'd never met previously ). Those were the days.....<br />
<br />
Paeks what are the max lifts looking like at the moment ? any PBs ? -
Squats are going really well- pushing 180-190 for multiple reps now - will do that for a bit and have another crack at 1RM. Should be knocking around 210-220 I reckon.<br />
<br />
About halfway through a month of dumbbell bench instead of regular bench. Hopefully that pushes me past the plateau I'd hit. Just couldn't get past 110 for more than a few reps.<br />
<br />
DL's have taken a back seat to KB's - still work a DL session in every 10 days or so. Haven't cracked past 180 for single lift though. I think I have a form issue, always get a strain in my left cheek! kind of weird as it doesn't feel like I'm uneven in my lift etc. Probably will talk to my PT about it.<br />
<br />
One big PB is being able to run again! it's been awesome, esp with the good weather we've had. I'm taking it pretty easy 3km or so twice a week. Don't want to push too hard too soon and mess my knee up again.<br />
<br />
Overall things are tracking well - dropping a wee bit of weight, slowly but surely. <br />
<br />
48 Asahi's!! holy shit batman!! -
Yeah bout 30 of those Asahis were me alone, twas a super night and naturally we solved all the worlds problems whilst pissed.<br />
<br />
Great stuff on those squats fella, now lets get that deadlift up huh ? <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fishing.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':fishing:' /> <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/eusa_whistle.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':whistle:' /> -
Ha ha I had a suspicion you'd accounted for more of those beers than the english fulla!!<br />
<br />
Yeah DL's will be back on higher rotation in a few weeks. Away in Oz on holiday next week then straight back to conferences in Roto-vegas and Auckland. Much fun... sigh. -
Fun with KB's tonight - noticed a real difference in fitness/endurance. Could crank through full super sets without throwing up or passing out - I've come close in the past! Did some core work afterwards, barbell cleans and threw in 3 sets of dumbbell bench for good measure. Away for the next couple of weeks but I reckon I'll be able to track down a gym while I'm away.<br />
<br />
JK where do you work out? I'm in the big smoke 10-12th Oct at a conference at Sky City. Staying at Sky City hotel, I know they have a 'gym' but sweet fark all free weights etc. Might have to check out where Les Mills is located! Would be cool to catch up but you are an early bird lol! -
I workout at a place called Just Workout mate. Most of their gyms are on the North Shore BUT they have a city branch very close to Sky City.<br />
<br />
If you go to http://justworkout.co.nz/ you can txt to get a free weeks trial pass which could be a good option for you.<br />
<br />
I am away 11th/12th down to Wairakei playing 100holes of golf in 1 day (see signature - sponser if ya like <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/good.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':good1:' />) so would have to be the 10th if can join ya for training. Wont be anything too serious though given my golf committment. -
That's pretty cool, what's your handicap? I got down to 5 or 6 when I was younger. Hope you raise a lot. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/good2.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':good:' />
-
Not currently a member anywhere but would like to think around about 9 or 10 but lower if played regularly.<br />
<br />
Got down to a 4 in my early 20s but pretty much gave up the game once I finished uni due to lack of spare time and when I did have spare time I went fishing -
sounds very familiar with my golfing past...in my late teens qualified for the NZ Amateur and played age group provincial stuff, but as oyu get older and have a real life (job) you dont have the time to get out as much and the game suffers, worse since I had kids too!<br />
<br />
Most of the Auckland hotels I have stayed at have poorly equipped gyms, Grand Chancellor and Spencer on Byron at least have a pool to use insterad of the weight machines, but I guess they are catering in the most part to businessmen who probably dont use them anyway <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/rugby/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> -

Thanks JK - will def get that sorted. Up for a conference so I'll be keen to sneak a few workouts in where I can!! -
Home from Melbs - great trip. A shed load of kai and booze, did manage a couple of trips to the hotel gym and a run as well. Head off for work later today so more hotel living which I could do without. Will check out that gym that JK posted above. Missing my free weights!

Joined the hundred club today! 100 squats at 100kg. 10 sets of 10 with 60-90sec between them. First proper session in two weeks so I decided to smash myself. Got to set 7 with no problems, sets 9 and 10 were ok but I was starting to get a bit wobbly. Reckon I could give 13-14 sets of 10 a nudge (if I was feeling stupid!).<br />
<br />
Dumbbell bench next, 30kg82, 35kg82, 27.5kg102 got a mad burn going. Really enjoy the change to dumbbells at the moment, pretty much no pressure through the shoulders. Will give it another 2-3 workouts then back to barbell bench again.<br />
<br />
BBBT round the worlds with 20kg plate. 10 each side for 2 sets<br />
<br />
Horizontal woodchops two sets of 8 each side<br />
<br />
Barbell drop sets at 20, 15, 12.5kg. Managed 20/12/12 for two sets. I think I just about cried on the last set at 12.5kg! intense burn!<br />
<br />
Walked back to the car (10min walk) very gingerly! have loosened up a bit now but I expect to be in pain tomorrow and the next day. -
Ugh, second day pain! can barely walk today, and I thought yesterday was bad! Did get back to the gym last night though. Did triceps and some back/shoulder work. close grip bench, pull downs, cable extensions. Seated row, shrugs, rotator cuff work. Finished up with some woodchops for core.<br />
<br />
Sat and Mon are my next two sessions. Hopefully my legs will have recovered by then! -

A core exercise I picked up off a Brad Thorn training vid. At 2.30min he does them. They are mean!! 2 sets of those (10 in each direction per set) and you'll be blowing! -
Ah ok, I saw Jacko Gill doing a similar one with a Med ball, I like how he does a core exercise in between each set...it'd be tough!
