Reckon Naholo may have put paid to his AB chances - at least as far as WC chances go. Bridge is starting to look very very good, and makes the right decisions.
Steady on, Naholo being a buffoon doesn't elevate Bridge from being a Jonny McNichol wannabee sucking on the teat of the best forward pack in the comp

Big difference between McNichol and Bridge is that Bridge can create and has a higher work rate. He makes more metres closer to the action. Bridge is a better defender as well.
Jonny was probably quicker though.

@canerbry I am starting to wonder whether The Smiths have lost their mojo...

I'm not worried at all about Aaron, but Ben doesn't seem to be quite the same player he was before his sabbatical and especially of a couple of years ago when any mistake by him was a source of amazement.
On the plus side, I thought Squire had a very strong game - went hard the full 80.
-
Think I'm most disappointed with the lack of leadership and cool heads shown by the senior players/All Blacks. Naholo's YC should have been the moment they regrouped. Instead they completely fell to bits. So much so that when they were up a man, they played like they were down several.
If I were the AB coaches, I'd be pissy at that display.

Although I’m sure one of those coaches will have thought, “extra week off for Azza, Bender and Liam...”

@kiwimurph our secret weapon that only needs one or two bullets in the chamber to be an AB...

@chris-b I remarked during the French tests that BFA looked remarkably underwhelming. I think you're correct and he's clearly not the player he was prior to his head knocks and sabbatical.

@antipodean head knocks and baby kids, might be time to further groom Barrett the youngest. Reserve judgement for post RC, he's earned some rope at 14

@siam fortunately for him then that the AB head coach spent many a day in Canterbury

@antipodean I guess he's already more than a year older than either of Mils and Leon when they retired.
More than five years older than Cully!

Wow, what a win. Pretty bloody stoked.
Our first 50 was just dire, and we should have been down by far more than 17. But we hung in there and cashed in really well against 14.
Not sure how the Clan weren’t able to score in those last 10 minutes, it was a bizarre brain snap by Paddy Ryan.
They just lacked patience, as we did in the first 40.

Well that makes no sense but better still let's keep crusader horse shit out of a Warratahs triumph thread eh?

@act-crusader god, we’ve had decades on anguish here, just give us one measly Super quarter fucking final, please...

Not to put too fine a point in it, but expecting Aaron Smith to step up under pressure because he's an AB would be a stretch; he's never really been under pressure as an AB halfback, and has consistently become a bigger dickhead than any halfback has a right to be.

Highlanders Name Team For Match Against The Waratahs
It’s quarterfinal time and Pulse Energy Highlanders Head Coach, Aaron Mauger, has named his strongest side to take on the Waratahs in Sydney. Returning to the team this week are All Blacks Ben Smith, Aaron Smith, Luke Whitelock, Elliot Dixon, co-captain Ash Dixon and centre, Rob Thompson. This is the fifth consecutive year the Highlanders have made the playoffs, finishing in 6th position at the end of the round robin stage. They are in the not unfamiliar position of being on the road having played only two playoff games at home since the inception of Super Rugby (1999 and 2015). Coach Mauger is excited by the opportunity, “these are the opportunities the guys work hard all year for and there are no second chances. It’s simply about putting our best performance on the field on Saturday. The Waratahs are a quality side playing at home which presents an awesome challenge for our guys, but like I said, these are the games we love to play”. -
