    Rather than clutter NTAs thread

Good run tonight. 7.5km in 38mins. Boys on bikes so i could push a little more.

Thought about my footfall, looks like i land pretty flat with more pressure to the front of the foot.

Quickest pace 3.48 per km. So still slower than old mate marathon, and i was pushing for like 100m. Fuck that time is insane.

Love a late arvo run on the Esplanade. Hotties everywhere

I've started something new, boxing. My mate is a pro heavyweight, and he's training me. It's simultaneously some of the most fun, and also the hardest, training i have ever done. The Saturday morning session is an hour and a half, and by the end i can barely lift my hands.

It's using muscles that haven't been used for a while obviously. But also it's an entirely new set of skills and coordinations. And i thought i was fit before i started, but these sessions leave me wrecked.

I am still of my original view that being punched is not much fun. I've only just started, so i am a spastic (actually, given my build, new born giraffe is an apt comparison) but i am determined to work this out.

Good to get that kind of coaching - understanding how its a whole-of-body martial art.

Jocks are still going to kick sand on your face at the beach tho you gangly fuck.

dude i have zero intention of getting in the ring with any legit boxer. The dude who is training me i have seen knock blokes out. Fuck being on the end of that.

At the moment it is fitness and and a new skill, who knows if it will ever go further than that.

Did a 10km race yesterday. Goal was to finish in 50 minutes. That was before i knew where i was running.

First 5km was on the beach, in 28 degree blazing sun. I did that in 24 minutes and i was on track. But it fucked me.

2nd 5km was more trail running, there was only 1km of road running in the whole course. Combine the shit footing with how tired i was the second 5km took me 28 mins for a 52 min time. Not bad but not what i wanted.

Considering how hard i found that 10, i am in awe of Mrs Mariner who did the half marathon. Baking hot 21km beach and trail run. What a legend. She's now run 3 half marathons in 5 months.

@mariner4life was more thinking about him (or one of the guys) tagging you for fun!! ie not fun at all for you - but prob plenty of giggles for them!!

Nice work on that run! 5km on the beach to start - I reckon I'd have hit the first race Marshall I could find... while searching for my lungs of course.

Have you worked out how you've driven your missus to endurance racing? hopefully she's still happy with your sprint finish 😄

At the risk of sounding redundant be sure to wrap your hands well. I found I could throw a good straight left pretty well but a good heavy bag is like fucken concrete. Take care of your mitts.

    yes RS, training flat out.

Got the "6 months to Iron Man" social media post the other day which spurred me on a little.

Still running. Back in the pool once a week. Fucking hard on the muscles after almost 4 months off, but the lungs were still pretty good. On the bike a couple of times as well. Still in the gym twice a week, and still hitting things once, so it's sort of 6 workouts a week at the moment.

Saw a physio about my knee. Thankfully it's not really my knee, looks to be ITB related, and some seriously tight muscles (especially through my hips and front of my groin). So lots of rolling, and a bit of strengthening of some areas, and i should be right in a little while. Also need to get new shoes.

Got a new Garmin watch, and it's such a great upgrade on my last one. Have been using the strength training function in the gym. Not only keeps track of my weights and reps, but i mainly use it to monitor my rest times. I've cut 10 minutes off my work outs, keeping my heart rate a little higher in the process.

well, it's back in to it this week. 19 weeks until Cairns Iron Man

I've had a pretty decent holiday period, drinking a fuck load (Mr & Mrs Mariner discovering the delights of a glass of very cold Rose on a hot tropical evening has been dangerous. You can't stop at one. Bottle.). I've stuck on 2kg, which is fuck all really. But my aerobic fitness has dropped a bit.

So back in to it this week. Swam last night. It was shit. I've dropped away a heap. But i am ahead of where i was this time last year i reckon, and it will come back quicker. An hour on the bike trainer this morning. That's not too bad, just stick ESPN on and peddle while watching NFL and NBA shows. Go for a run tonight, to complete a decent 24 hours.

Looking at two of each discipline per week, plus two gym sessions. Will start some real distance stuff in April.

Now more than ever convinced that June will be my last triathlon.

10km run last night in 54 mins. Not too bad given it was my second session for my legs that day.

Fucking sweat though, humidity is ridiculous even for the tropics. fucking monsoon.

those guys are fucking legends. Anyone doing that gets my full admiration. The shear quantity of work they do. Was that 7 hours on the bike? fuck all of that noise!!

Guy running yesterday was obviously a real triathlete, they just have that build, lean and square. fluffybunny was just cruising as well, while i probably looked like i was running up hill

@mariner4life 6.5 hours it was...he has run loads of marathons (used to play a bit of first class cricket back in the day for CD I think) but the volume of work he is doing is amazing.

    3km pool swims #fuckthat

At least when is doing ocean swims it isnt as monotnous as doing a tumble roll every 30m!
