Not really. I don’t think we have that much class to be more than an upsetter in the conference.

This game, in particular, will give some clues as to whether we are likely to be pushing the Crusaders or fighting with the Blues.

There are also a lot of ifs about the team - we are going to be reliant on BBBR, with no Cane for however long. A few front row injuries, or god forbid, and injury to (I’ll stop right there), and we’ll be fighting for 4th place in the conference.

On the positive side, we have game-breaking class in the backs, and potentially the next best midfield in Super rugby if the Auckland boy steps up and plays well.

we're hugely lacking in top end talent. Good props don't win Super Rugby.

BBBR has bigger fish to fry this year, and Same Cane is on a loooong comeback. That's our point of difference up front.

In the backs it's DMac (but not where he is most dangerous) and ALB.

We've got some good super rugby level players, but that makes us a mid-table side. At best we scrape in to the finals.

I think there was only myself and @Crucial that switched from the Canes, the rest just kept their heads in the sand. 😉

I'm not fully in week in week out supporting mode yet ...but I'm not confident of a good season from the Chiefs, scrape into the finals maybe but only just.

Yep. If a few of the new signings turn out to be good ones, and we stay injury free, I predict we get third in the conference and sneak into the finals.

How strange. First time in a looong time I genuinely dont care.
Maybe that will change as the season progresses.

Doesn't change the fact that it is stupidly early for a football code to start. There should still be test match cricket on.

Well the Caps have got the Bangles next so interest may wane there if they don't put up a fight, which is likely given Shakib is injured. Also it being a RWC year the first rounds of Super rugby is the least interesting part of the season by miles.

I always remember the post @Dodge made about the footy season starting in England where he found it a little depressing as it meant Summer was about to end.

That kind of struck a chord with me.

I am liking my cricket too much to care about the Chiefs at the moment. I can honestly say that if I was given a free ticket to this weekends game (are we even at home, I am thinking so purely because of thread title) that I would turn it down.

I don't watch cricket and it seems a bit early for me even - but I know I'll probably watch at least two games this weekend and if our free tickets pan out I'll venture over to Brookvale to watch the Canes v Tahs.

@Nepia I fell out of love too.

Marty is back, Lomax improved immensely last year so if he even improves a tenth as much this season he'll be a beast, ditto our bench blindsides. Tomkinson has owned preseason and will be a great partner for matchbox 20. Bye Chiefs.

really? fuck. well, there you go.

Doesn't change the fact that it is stupidly early for a football code to start. There should still be test match cricket on.

I always remember the post @Dodge made about the footy season starting in England where he found it a little depressing as it meant Summer was about to end.

That kind of struck a chord with me.

Sounds like a winner on tinder though.

I would be disappointed if we (Highlanders) didn't win the game. Looking at conference chiefs look to have most holes of any NZ team. Watched both Highlanders preseason and am concerned about two things, ability to create space on attack and missed first up tackles. In saying that hopefully having all frontline players in team will help.

I'm simply waiting for the teams before making comment. No use debating on reputation alone.
I have no idea whether the Chiefs have been keeping their powder dry pre-season or whether that is the best they have given that the ABs may not be up to speed.
