Richie takes on the line and has a step and that little burst. As opppsed to Barrett who spots a gap and then tries to gas it. Tonight there weren’t many gaps for Barrett because the Crusader defence was well organised and the Canes weren’t breaking the line that often.

Very noticeable difference from last week was how flat Richie stands in comparison to Cameron and Hunt. That’s a player with confidence and quicker reaction time.

The Canes were weighed, they were quartered and they were found wanting..beaten in all the stats that mattered, but the most telling thing to me was B Barrett,N Laumape & A Savea were all quiet..completely kept in check by the back to back champs..Tiatia & Lam we’re both exposed by a couple of very good kicks.
I also thought that despite Read leaving the field after 40 that he put in a very good shift, hope the injury is not to serious

He doesn't get much credit, but David Havili has been stringing some good games together this season. He was probably the only Crusader playing well last week, and today's game was good as well. Two good tries tonight, almost three. Yes, Tiatia made a mistake, but Havili was the one to spot the space, make the kick, chase it and score the try. Showed skill when scoring his 2nd try, too.

I thought our tight 5 played really well in a losing effort was really impressed with Mitchell and Blackwell our loonies were very quiet for a change. Think our backs really need some penetration as the seemed very stagnant very worried about the Highlanders next week now.

Beaudy's intercept passes are a technical weakness.

Instead of looking straight ahead with his peripheral vision covering an arc of 120 to 150 degrees straight in front of himself, he is looking backwards towards his backline with a big blind spot on his open side, throwing big loopy passes and getting picked off.

Should be solvable but I'm thinking this is pointing towards Mo'unga @ 10 and BB at 15 in Japan being the way forward, Mo'unga more direct, like Cruden. BFA on one wing.

@infidel You're right. I remember seeing a clip, last year (I don't remember where), of both BB and Mo'unga throwing a similar pass and you could clearly see the difference in body position. I wish I'd saved it; IIRC that clip came with some good commentary as well.

@Stargazer maybe Jordie took the last piece of pavlova when they were last home?

@Canerbry he doesn’t play this bad when he basically has the Cantab forward pack for the ABs, so we have a direct comparison.

I also said it was the worst game I’ve seen him play.

The All Black team that have had almost no spark in the backs for a season? Team after team have showed that if you defend tightly that Barrett backline is easily contained. Even a poor England were half a metre from doing us over.

Basically if the AB don't run the opposition into the ground, giving space in the last twenty minutes, they struggle.

When was the last time Barrett blew away a top side in Black? We rely on Ioane and our fullback for any spark these days.

An embarassing match for the Canes top players. Completely outplayed by their opposites. Tiatia and Lam also badly exposed.

The Canes coaches need to get their act together.

One start would be this. If a player plays a good game one week then they start the next week in the same position. As it is there's no real incentive for players. Play a blinder and they are still dropped or moved around. Goosen should have started this week. And Jordie should have started at 2nd. Reward good form. As it is the selections are a joke. Lam can play like crap and he still gets a start. Other players can have a good game but dropped or on the bench.

My view is Plumtree isn't a head coach. He's a great assistant though.

Que? Maybe the Canes coaches noticed his kess than desirable passing skills?

I think you're giving them too much credit, they haven't noticed yet that their starting lock is shorter than some teams loose forward trios.

Let me think about that half... Tiatia, Lam showed why they're not AB's, Fifita goes high with and without the ball. Jordie Barrett - just needs to play smarter

That's hilarious. He's played half a dozen games of super rugby, I'd say that's got a shit load more to do with it than any mistake he made in one game.
