Didn't end up getting to the shop so no beetroot for me. Definitely later tonight.

Thought gym was closing at 7 today for renovations so got up bright and early. Should have checked the date on that facepalm. Anyway apart from two rather fit women, the gym was empty and it was a good session. Chest and biceps. Never a let down if there's enough time 👍.

If I had the choice of eating beetroot or being shot then I'd be dead.

That's not promising. I will buy a tin and see how I go. There is an old dude at the gym who looks 20 years younger. He's basically tested all of this stuff on himself for years. Swears by it. But if it tastes like shit I'll give it a miss.

I am a very fussy eater. It took me about 37 years to truly enjoy mushrooms.

Do you have beetroot on burgers?

    fuck no

When someone tells me they like a proper burger, one "with the lot" and it doesn't come with bacon, egg, pineapple and beetroot, that tells me I shouldn't leave them alone with children, pets or expensive electronics.

Beetroot is great. Just don't freak out at the red in your shits. We're all middle aged men, you take a glance from time to time 😂

Roast beetroot in a salad with feta etc is really good. Am ok with it in a burger but not generally my thing.

Juicy pineapple mixing with egg on a burger?!? AND beetroot thrown in just to make the scene look like even more of a mess..

Never heard of such a concoction! All OK individually, not together man!!

So had beetroot with kale and a hint of ginger. Only a hint because I put a rather large knob in there (no jokes please children) and it nearly blew my mouth out.
That looks as a dodgy as hell on a second read....
Anyway was pretty good and gives you a nice hit of energy. But yes, the ginger is powerful stuff. Stay away from large knobs.

Had that yesterday. Yes, very nice. The apple makes the perfect addition.

So pretty intense couple of days. Friday I did back and tris then did 2km of swimming that afternoon. Saturday I did legs and then did 10 Max effort 25m in the pool. Think I deserved my Maccas later in the day. It's cool how they have those screens now so you don't even have to go to the counter. Very efficient.

Squad swimming still on hold until next week so went for run with intervals this morning. Was a bit late out so couldn't make it too long but went OK. Broken record, but fook running is easier than swimming.

Hit the pool with the boys today. Impressive effort allround. Youngest is a gun at freestyle. Embarrassingly he'll probably cane the eldest soon but eldest still ridiculously good at breaststroke. I suck at the other strokes but have made some serious strides in freestyle. My coach asked me today if I wanted to compete in a club meet in May. As someone who was part of the mongo line-up for swimming at school that is pretty damn weird. Anyway, did 2km and a couple of races. Great workout and nice little bonding session.

Realised it's been almost exactly a year since I posted last Easter about how hard I found it being a single dad and seeing happy families around me. Many thanks again for the kind words expressed at that time. I wasn't in a good place and it helped out alot.

Well a year is a long time and after a rather surreal journey I'm pretty blessed to have found someone who I think I want to continue the next stage of my life with. This Easter was the exact opposite of last year.

When I was left to pick up the pieces 18 months ago, I felt there were 2 things I had to do: (1) Distance myself from negativity and negative people and (2) Focus on the what made me feel good. Exercise and eating right made me feel good and so I decided to make that one area where I didn't let up. I've done that and while it has essentially been a mental health thing, there have been so many other benefits. I also don't think there's any doubt that being fit and healthy helped me out big time in the dating world. The point is that I know from experience that there are multiple positive benefits of regular exercise and good eating. I cringe to think of the state (both mental and physical) I might be in if I hadn't devoted myself to this.
