A special Olympics guy from Counties region is currently swimming the Cook Strait. Samuel Muir-James.

Hahaha wow, that's awesome. I didn't even use the pool this summer. Not joking.

Back into the swimming lately in a good way.

Got a few goals I want to tick off before hitting 40, the main one being a sub 1.05 100 metre freestyle.

    This weeks programmme:
    Mon: 3km
    Tues: 3.5km
    Wed: 3.5km
    Thurs: 2km (morning) 3km (evening)
    Friday: 2km

Sat and Sunday to be determined after a long run and club champs for tennis.

this is awesome. I can swim quickly when swim-fit, but those distances are excellent. Good luck on your goal.

One important point I want to add is that doing lots (as in 500m or more 2-3 times a week) of kick training with a board (at a fast pace , not slow) really helps to lift and streamline the form through the water. You know the point where you can just power along the top of the water as fast as most swimmers. That will help your 100m target.
I'll go for a swim in the next week or two and get my 50m current time (completely untrained).
It'd be interesting to hear from others, too.

Agree, I’ve really upped the volume of kick in my sets lately. Including quite a lot of max effort sets

Nobody likes doing kick (we’d all prefer to swim the lazy way with a pull buoy and paddles), but it’s a pretty effective way to improve speed.

The only downside is that kickboard is an absolute farking cnut. My swimming kryptonite to be sure. What's your best 50 time?

Our boy has started swimming lessons, with Mum or Dad, but right now I can’t swim with him as I have a small -very tasteful- tattoo on my right shoulder (fucking Japan). As a result, I have to either tape my arm or use a big plaster (which usually comes off, so is out) or buy a swim suit that covers the top of my arms.

So, since many here have a bit of experience with this, is there swimwear like that for guys? I assume so, therefore are there any good brands to go for? Things to avoid? I doubt I’ll start swimming heaps, but if I have to invest I’d rather spend money on something I could use if I end up swimming more.

I'm confused and super curious, how bad can the tattoo be that you can't show it in public? They are pretty mainstream these days.

I cover north of Auckland for him. Tatts also save having to decorate a skin coat.

That’s my fallback, but if I could get a good swimsuit then I coouuuuuld start swimming. After reading the stuff on here, I’m thinking about it. But, I’d have to swim in the rash shirt if I went that way and I’m hoping there is a better option..

    How small is your tatt?

    This might work:

Nobody is going to complain about the ink...

I was waiting for this type of post. Remember that I can send the boys around if you get out of line.

Would be shit having to wear a rashy for laps in a pool.
    Get the tattoo removed?

What an utterly retarded dilemma. Is this the law across the entire country or just that pool?
