@MN5 that and the 10 others i had were awesome

Surprised you could drink beer, after doing a full ironman my mouth was completely raw from all the sugary drinks and gels etc during the race. Eating or drinking anything with flavour was a painful experience.

One thing that was stressed to me a lot when I started doing this stuff was to make sure you train yourself to run off the bike. Most of our Sundays we did a long bike ride (6-10 hours) and always finished this off with a 20-30 minute jog straight away.

Well done mate, you've done really well.

@SammyC well remember you went twice as far as me!

I quit the gels on the run, fucking had enough of that shit, and they weren't helping. I was on the flat coke. And dumping water on my head.

I didn't have a beer until an hour and a half afterwards, when i had taken on a heap of other stuff, and had a shower.

Mate, that is awesome. You completed it!!

I actually know exactly how you feel. The first half I did, my aim was two hours. I trained pretty hard, did a fair bit of research, and had some sort of anticipation that on race day, it would be very motivating, and I'd be able to get that extra 3-4% I needed to get my time. But it just didn't happen, I was fucked after 14km, and no motivation, people cheering, feeling of completion could counter the fact I was fucked. I ended up not even getting close to 2 hours and felt let down at the end.

However, looking back, I did complete it and I did learn about what I needed to do to get my aim. And ultimately, I'm much better for it, and I don't think one single person who had encouraged me was any less impressed by me not reaching my goal.

Which is exactly what all of us on this forum are thinking. It's phenomenal mate. Just enjoy it.

Out of interest, what were your times? I couldn't see me even getting close to 3 hours after a swim and a ride!

Times were 50 minute swim, 3.20 ride, and 2.47 "run" for a total of 7.14 apparently. Which is a long time to be mobile if I think about it.

Of those I am happy with the ride, bit slower than I wanted but I was trying to conserve energy, and that last bit was really slow. And the swim time is better the more people I talk to about theirs. Apparently everyone was slow.

On another note, despite not having much weight to give, this morning I was still 2.5kg lighter than Saturday morning, despite eating a fair bit Sunday night and yesterday.

I'm already putting serious thoughts in to going again.

Have enjoyed this thread, hell of an achievement regardless of how you feel about it. You hit a wall and it still didn't beat you, great mental strength IMO.

    I'm a stubborn, competitive bastard

Cheers boys, a few days out and i am feeling way better about the whole thing. I fucking did it, and it took a fair amount of work to do it. Being disappointed in my time just means i haven't lost those competitive juices just yet.

On the look out for my next event. Either a half marathon in Melbourne in October, or a mountain bike race earlier in the month.

Ran the esplanade last night, exorcised a few demons by actually running it.

Have a bet with a mate, first to run a sub-50 minute 10km gets a good bottle of win. Did 51.54 last night, not sure where the other 2 minutes is going to come from. Might get a mate who is a gun runner to pace me.

    @mariner4life

    Do that!

I have a friend who is a bit of a skinny deer, and when I ran with him (and let him do the talking) I’d always have fast times.

    New year, new me, etc

    Nah, bullshit. I'm already awesome.

Anyway, really just the right place to whinge about going to they gym just after New Years, when it is full of fucking nuffies trying to better themselves by either starting again, or starting from scratch. Suddenly the place is packed, and i can't do what i want, in the order i want it. I can't wait until Feb when it is back to normal.

I went for a run on the weekend, just a 5km at park run with the family. God it sucked. I have done barely any running since August, and i have gone from light and rhythmic in June, to heavy and plodding and slow in January. Felt like shit. So i will have to start again, because i miss how well i could run mid-year.

The problem is, at my age, it's super hard to get motivated without a goal. And seeing as i have sold all my triathlon shit, that's out the window.

My training regime for the last decade has basically been smash myself stupid for three months and let that slowly decline over the next nine...

I too have had enough of the NY resolution gym goers, so I'm putting it off for a few weeks.
