    What a piss weak decision.

    Feeble as fuck

They had a crack, weren’t getting anywhere. So why risk a penalty?

@Machpants the chances of going the length were pretty slim..chances are all you would have done was given up another penalty trying to play out of your half..and then you would look really silly

Especially in these conditions. Weather in Auckland this week has been terrible. Lucky to get as good a game as we did

@Kirwan Yep, Lane has to go and Sotutu has to go to the 2nd row. Manu also needs to come back in at centre as our defence in the backs looked a bit lost at times.

Last year we really struggled to put away Counties in the first round.

This year we were really flat in the 2nd half. Missed our locks, Olmsted, Ioane, and Papalii. Probably some direction at halfback too, although the halfback's kicking game was pretty good.

Lane was seventh choice lock by the end last year. Not good enough.

Does anyone know what is in that spray (Stevenson)?

It will have minerals like magnesium. Looked like Cramp Stop.

@Kirwan absolutely..it was a superb game evening, under the conditions the handling was great from both teams in the main Harbour especially..
I thought Harbour showed some real ticker to come back from 14-28 down and I think may have been a tad unlucky not to win..

I don’t think for minute the harbour full team drive should have been a penalty try, I don’t believe there was the same forward momentum that got Auckland a penalty try in the first half, looked more like it collapsed upon itself.

However I do believe Caleb Clarke should have been binned for the clumsy challenge ..

Overall a really good game, congratulations to both teams for a great nights entertainment..

Thought big Karl,Tuoiti Mariner,Jacob Pierce,Bryn Hall & Sean Stevenson were good for Harbour..
For Auckland,Robbie Abel,Hoskings Sotutu,Jack Whetton ,TJ Faiane and despite his faupar Rayasi were good value..
Credit to the young AK halfback on debut..reasonably tidy.

I believe that Counties game was the only game Lane started last year. He still looks a few kgs too light.

    @Daffy-Jaffy Definitely a better 10 than 12; clear playmaker.

@JK I always feel guilty admitting it, but my old man was a huge Auckland fan, and I went to almost every home game.

I mentioned after watching the trial last week and talking to a couple of the boys, that some of the AKL forwards seemed a little on the light/smaller side, having never seen the side live before. Front rowers not so much but some of the locks and loosies did.

Excellent game from both sides tonight given the poor conditions in Auckland tonight.

I started driving to the game from Bucklands Beach where I am staying and got stuck in traffic, rain coming down, was going to be late, so turned around and watched on the telly. Don’t call me Lane.... 😎

So was mine. Remember going to all those games with that old DB chant they had echoing around the ground...”we’re DB, we’re Auckland and we know how to win” but also went to every Northcote club game and even recall see Terry wright play for them before he crossed the bridge. Still always be harbour tho!

    righto, very brief match report.

Weather was rubbish, can't underestimate how wet it was in teh week leading up. All soccer and rugby cancelled basically ... although today is yet another glorious blue sky in the City of Sails and Crappy Super Franchises.

Auckland played really well to start, and could/should ahve been ahead by more. Were getting mulched in teh scrum until (I think) Li went off for Harbour. Backs looked better; the reserve 9 pass was good; flat and to the line. Looked good to me.

5 stood out for his lineout work. Got a hand to a number of Harbour balls, but couldn't quite steal many. Looked light though aroudn the field. Not terrible, but not particularly physical.

The handling was outstanding from both sides. Very little dropped pill, particularly from unforced errors. The game was good to watch generally, plenty of intensity from the attacking side.

Auckland just went to sleep for 30 odd minutes in teh second half. Passive defence, standing flat footed and letting NH runa t them. Very very frustrating. Conceded tries, and deserved to.

Plummer kicked well until he missed the sitter from in front. Frustrating - he works hard I understand, but that has to be a mental thing now.

15 for Harbour has a massive massive boot on him. Stood out for kickign further than anyone else on the park, just a monster.

Ref was not bad; the TMO saved Auckland by finding the knock on, but otherwise was reasonable. Glad that Harbour missed their shot to win the game - a draw was probably a fair result given the effort put in by both sides.

All in all, 3 points is 3 pionts. Both sides won't be disappointed, but I don't get booing at the end ... if you're banking three points, why boo? Just take it, flush the dunny, and move one.

Also, that's two games in a row at EP that are tied in regulation. Haven't seen that before 🙂
