The USA 2nd 5 has a touch of the Sam Tuitupo to him in defence.

Paul Lasike. A Kiwi-born player who had a short stint in the NFL.

Is this game worth watching? Maybe I should just watch the last 10 mins.

That happened in the 71st minute, hence my comment about watching the last 10 mins to cover Farrell being Farrellized and the USA try.

Have seen both tackles now - definite red for Quill.

How Francis escaped without even a penalty (despite it being shown on the big screen) is a fucking joke. He should be cited.

The chocolate wheel of (in)consistency continues.

Good strategy. North America kind of sucked.

But this happened from the kickoff so I reckon the officials have dropped the ball.

                Crazy, right?

@NTA firstly, i commend you on the diversity of your gif selection, super inclusive, so yay you

secondly, i haven't seen the incident (how very Arsene Wenger of me aye @Hooroo ?) so a gif would be appreciated. I just saw a still and it looks like he hits the ball?

It's a complete lottery the tackle stuff,

wait, I've just seen it. That's worse than Hodges! What the actual fuck is going on?

The Yank was a red all fucking day, and deserves a fair stint on the sidelines, i think that's beyond doubt.

But that Piers Francis hits the guy in the head with the point of his shoulder, clear as day. What the fuck are the TMOs doing? Are they involved or not? Is there some dispensation for first tackle of the game? (the old "can't get out first ball" rule)

Not saying I agree with the lack of sanction for Francis (so far at any rate) but he made an attempt to wrap the arms which Hodge didn't really. Still, high all day long and the Seppos should have got something out of it. I'd expect Francis to get cited really. Be odd par for the course if he didn't.

TOKYO, 27 Sep - England centre Piers Francis has been cited for an act of foul play contrary to Law 9.13 (dangerous high tackle) in England’s Rugby World Cup 2019 match against USA on 26 September.

The player will attend a hearing before an independent Judicial Committee chaired by Nigel Hampton QC (New Zealand), joined by former international coach Frank Hadden (Scotland) and former international player John Langford (Australia). The hearing will take place in Tokyo on a date to be agreed with the player and his representatives.

                              I really like Eddie Jones

He is the biggest piston wristed gibbon in world rugby.

                              Not even close

That's come from players and coaches who have been part of his setup. Almost universally hated. Not saying he hasn't been successful, but he's just an awful human.

                              ever met the bloke?

I’ve met Eddie a few times and he’s pretty good for a chat and seemed decent enough. Didn’t sense that others who I were with that knew him far better had any personal animosity against him.

I've met him a few times. He's a bloody funny bloke. Loves rugby too, at all levels.

And i know more than a couple of people who have played for him, and they have a lot of time for the bloke.

                                  I really like Eddie Jones

He is the biggest piston wristed gibbon in world rugby.

                                  Not even close

That's come from players and coaches who have been part of his setup. Almost universally hated. Not but saying he hasn't been successful, but he's just an awful human.

                                  ever met the bloke?

Christ no man, what a question to ask of someone on the Fern!

Look, I'm sure he is great on a stage, though that's hardly the measure of a bloke - and I have no doubt he lives and breathes rugby. And I'm sure there are plenty of guys who have played with him and had no issue with him and even liked/loved him.

But I know a couple of guys who have been very close to his setups and know guys intimately who played with and assisted him over the years years. And some of the stories are pretty intense - but this isn't the place to repeat them.

@mariner4life There is a good still shot of the Francis hit on the BBC report about his citing.

"England's Piers Francis has been cited for foul play following a tackle that left United States full-back Will Hooley with concussion."

Hooley left the field with concussion after missing an up and under, which I'm yet to see a replay / analysis of.

Wilson was on the hunt and I'm curious if he was the cause of the concussion

@MiketheSnow The tackle shown and the one cited for was straight from the kickoff. I’m pretty sure Hooley went off much later but the tossers at ITV didn’t show the incident. Hooley was lucky to be on the field tbh, he went flying in to Cockanisiga chasing a high ball tha ought to have seen yellow at least. I think the fact that Cockanisiga didn’t fall over probably saved him.

The red card to quill came right after a questionable penalty to England a few metres out from their line

So double cheating by USA to get away with a yellow and then get an ENG player cited? How very dare they! #nojustice
