This is all about World Rugby’s lawyers and the fear of litigation. You can sit around and nod sagely about safety, but they’re not doing this because they care about the players. They’re doing it because they don’t want to be sued. But they’ll destroy the game in the process and piss off the advertisers. When games are wrecked by refereeing decisions you have a dud product. People won’t pay to watch it. I paid a fortune for tickets to the Wales-France semi-final in 2011 and was ropable when Warburton was sent off. There has to be a better system.

Warburton deserved to be sent off.

Wales lost because they couldn't convert territory and possession into points.

There is a better system, it's called learn to tackle.

My most effective tackle when I was playing inside centre was right under the rib cage. Get that right and they fold up like a deckchair often spilling the ball.

It's funny how it's all world rugby's fault yet no blame apportioned to Lavanini who's seen so many cards he should take up poker.

@Bones It’s a stupid system, OK? The NFL alllows unlimited substitutions. Punish the player afterwards, as hard as is necessary. Deprive them of income. But don’t punish the entire team. And DON’T punish the paying public. I’m not sure why this is so hard to understand. It’s a business. It’s about putting bums on seats.

Argentina clearly need a wee bit of fortune in the first ten min of the next half but England probably got this now

They have some fantastic players but they're go to is the mace not the rapier.

May, Watson and Daly should all have two tries each by now if only England could take and give and put the ball in space at pace.

          I’m watching a bit delayed.

The current system with red cards is ruining rugby. Completely ruining it.

17.24 minutes in and I now have zero interest in continuing to watch the game, as it’s over as a contest.

I’m not disagreeing with looking after the players and coming down hard on high tackles, but the system needs looking at.

Red carded player should still be sent from the field, but may be replaced after 10 minutes.
This way the game remains a contest, and the carded player can be dealt with by the judiciary.

This is the 7th? red card of the WC!
How long will the playing public put up with lopsided games due to red cards?

What if it remains a contest? What if England get a red card?

It may remain a contest to a certain extent, but Argentina are now zero chance of winning. Not when the card is given so early in the game.

          Zero

Watching Fox Sport coverage - Phil said rugby needs to go the way of league, put the player on report, this red card rubbish is ruining rugby. He even said send the offending player, but let him be replaced.

Hey, don't knock it. I went for England by 25 and they'd already be nearly that far ahead if they weren't so pedestrian.

Stodgy play and bad kicking is making my 25 look quite good.

@westcoastie He’s absolutely right. You can both be sensitive to the needs of player safety and hard-headed about the commercial aspects of the game, which I have now turned off, I’m sure along with thousands of others.

No it's not. We should probably remove penalties from the game too right? Why punish teams and punish the paying public!

I'm also the paying public and I'm more than happy with what happened. Players carrying out foul play like that should be punished on the pitch.

@MrDenmore bullshit. That's a red card for as long as I've been playing.

                                  See. 🙂

@Gunner Quite. And the paying public might well ask for their money back. Even better, a class action against the piston wristed gibbons who run World Rugby.

                                    Give it up ffs.

The guy went for a hard hit against arguably England's best / most influential player.

                                    He got it wrong.

                                    He was suitably punished.

                                    It's not that difficult.

I don’t believe anyone is arguing about the crime and punishment. We can park that.

It’s about common sense and not punishing a team for one of their players actions.

Red cards have become more common than hot dinners, and I like many others see it as a problem for the game.

No it's not. We should probably remove penalties from the game too right? Why punish teams and punish the paying public!

I'm also the paying public and I'm more than happy with what happened. Players carrying out foul play like that should be punished on the pitch.

@Bones Well good for you Bones. I’m sure you’ll be there at the end cheering on as referees, paranoid about losing their jobs, hand red cards out like parking tickets. What a spectacle, eh?
