That saffer left winger for Canada is a handy player. Very busy and involved in the play. Almost playing like a loose forward in defence. Used a key ball carrier as well.

South Africa coming off the boil, looked like they'd get a century going in for oranges.

Canada somehow look better with just 14, although very tired now.

Poor ruck work by Canada after a turnover and counterattack.

As I feared, SA got too loose. Poor-ish 2nd half.
Hats off to Canada who played much better - and with only 14 men. Nothing to be ashamed of in that result.

PD slightly worse than ours v Canada, only 59 (we had 63).

They had a man down for half the game too.

By a supreme piece of fuckwittery from the Canadian.

Did not need to get involved.

He did - from the side - delivering a cheap shot to the unsighted SA prop.

              Unacceptable.

              Deservedly red carded.

                Reinach's service is so sloooow.
He's having agood game in loose play, but his basics as a scrummy look rusty.

I assume you're referencing my comments on Reinach... Agreed. Plus his box-kicking also seemed in slo-mo.
There now seems to be clear daylight between the duo of Faf & Herschel and Reinach.

Funny, I can't remember him being that lumbering at the basics for the Sharks in the past. Maybe he is just ring-rusty.

@Billy-Webb was it his 2nd try that he got from the ruck on the line? They showed a highlight at half time of his tracking and while it ended up being well timed, he was a loooong way behind the play, it was quite surprising to see.

Good to see the Springboks are being ruthless, but this RWC could be the death of Canadian rugby.

It's their own fault and I have no sympathy.
They should make it easier for Saffers to emigrate there. Then they'd start building a good base 😉

Having said that, they'd require some decent coaching at school level onwards and they don't have that. Importing some Afrikaners would mean taking them from the U20 side to improve this lot.

True - but you have old SA buggers like @Smuts hanging around there so they may have some decent youth club coaching?

@Billy-Webb ha. In Ontario we only this season produced a manual for jnr coaches designed to give Hockey parents simple plans to ensure that kids develop the skills we expect them to have at each age grade.

But you would be shocked at the huge numbers of juniors in this country (of both genders) who love this game.

But our governance structures are a disaster at Provincial and National level.

Which means we lose the majority of those players after high school AND don’t make the most of the truly talented players running around in Ontario, Alberta and particularly BC.

As just one example there is not a single First Grade club within central Toronto. Which is a complete travesty given that the majority of 20- 30 year olds in Canada’s biggest city live and work downtown or close to it.

And the coaching at high school and senior level Is basically appalling. But the talent is there. All we need is for someone to pull finger out and establish connections with the NZRU or Ireland or England and get the resources out here.

And to a degree I blame World Rugby, it’s such a huge opportunity going begging particularly when you see our female participation rates.

                      But enough of that.

I was really proud of those boys bravery after the card. Especially considering they’re being coached by the rugby equivalent of a broken photocopier...

@MiketheSnow Schalla is a legend - but you’d expect that from an oke who passed through the madhouse of Wilgenhof res - beloved by Doc Craven and producer of Morne du Plessis and Jannie Smuts.

@Smuts Rugby league is making bigger inroads into Toronto than union, and in a far shorter time.

@Salacious-Crumb the Wolfpack (League team just promoted to the Super League) have a good product but the Arrows (MLR franchise) have far more natural support.

And as a participation sport, league simply doesn’t feature in Canada.

@Smuts Purely anecdotal. Been up to Canada twice this year. Fuckall coverage of Union in the Star and Globe and Mail, but surprising amount of coverage of their League team in both.

@Salacious-Crumb fair enough. Yet another reason why I resent our press.
