Good man, my sad little life needs this vicarious challenge.

That KFC and beer will be the best ever.

However if you associate KFC and beer with happiness, they will become the substances you will be dependent on them to cheer you up for the rest of your life.
Can you live with that.

Anyway, good luck and keep posting

Haven't read the whole thread, but your knee problem sounds remarkably similar to a problem I have had. Used to have the same dull pain with occasional wild bolts of pain in my right knee. First doctor hadn't a clue, but the knee specialist sorted it out.

The soft stuff on the inside of my knee cap was terribly bruised and uneven and as such caused small swellings inside the knee after training and matches. They fixed that in about 7 minutes, 3 small holes, a camera, a steel thingey and some sort of electric multi tool. Lifted the knee cap, polished the soft(ish) stuff behind the knee cap, closed the holes and 3 weeks later I was sweet as. I still get an occasional stab, but it's not a problem anymore.

Barn, Only just stumbled across this (pun intended). Good on ya. YOU CAN DO IT. PdP's got it in aces. If you could manage half the distance in the 1st week you have got to be able to do this. Don't listen to the nay sayers. When I used to do marathons (a loooong time ago) I went 2 yrs without running at all then ran a half marathon with a weeks preparation. Your body remembers. You also need to factor in the rush you'll get on the day. I reckon physically you can manage the run already. How fuckin hard is it. It is not 20 km's. You're going to run 1 km. Not 20 x 1km. Just 1 km. Then you're going to think "fuck that was easy I'll run another km". Never focus on more than an easily achieveable target - the next lampost etc. You'll be surprised how easy it is to con yr body and mind. Helps if you're thick I suppose. Get yr headspace rightb and you'll manage it. Imagine the satisfaction of proving everyone wrong.Â

Yeah I think that's pretty much it 😁 Thanks alot for that Dogmeat, yeah it's gonna be a pretty emotional moment if I make it across the line. There may be tears, there may be dry rooting, there will be beer.

THE FINAL PUSH

Tuesday 29/8...decided I was ready today and ran beyond Ross Creek to the foot of Flagstaff and back. I made it but had to run up two of the longest steepest hills in the Dunedin in the process. Don't know if my legs will ever be the same.

So 12km (approx), 75min, at an average rate of 9km/h. Running at that speed in the HM will get me there in 2 hours 20...people have run full marathons in less time than that <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/blink.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' />

Though in my favour I do run a pretty undulating course in training, whereas the HM course is more or less dead flat, following the shoreline as it does. The weather will hopefully have warmed up by a few degrees, I will be able to rehydrate during the run (presumably, I mean they must have drink stations), I will have mates to pace me and the adrenaline will be pumping full blast.

Breakfast: banana
Lunch: Chicken fettucine slice
Dinner: 160g scotch fillet (flatmates out of town - woo hoo!)

Thesis: 6,678 words down, 11,322 words to go.

                          Thursday 31/8

Easy 40min jog today. Felt a bit flat so want to save myself up for a big one on Saturday, and for once I'm not talking about getting on the lash.

Breakfast: banana
Lunch: chicken foccacia
Dinner: sausages, eggs and beans on toast (flatmates still out of town, must remember to get the locks changed before they get back)

Ok so I'm now into the last 10 days before the run, what should I be doing in particular during this time? Anything I should be eating or drinking? Going to do three more runs: Saturday, Monday, Wednesday, then the HM is on Sunday.

Thoughts?

Water is always good Barn, and 7 serves of fruit and veg a day to keep the toxins at bay. Lean meat and pasta to help with all the protein and carb needs too.

Nah mate you'll be fine as long as you don't let the occassion get to you. Go out at a steady pace and only concentrate on the next 100m. You only have to finish, not win the sodding thing. Feel the force.
