Eddie: we lost because the South Africans played very well tonight. We tried extremely hard. Couldn't get on the front foot against magnificent defence. Congratulations South Africa.

No unbeaten team in the tournament is a reflection of how close it was this time around. Been a fantastic World Cup.
SA got some luck in the draw that allowed them some easier lead up knockout games (no slight, that's tournament sport). They used all of the powder they were able to keep dry tonight, and were far too good
England had a far easier ride up to the NZ match
Reinforces the idea that it's very hard to string 2 or 3 top performances together versus quality opposition

They're be back. England will try to challenge for Number 1 in the world now. They have a strong team in France in 2023.
