The gap between Aaron Smith and every other halfback in NZ is like the Grand Canyon.

Unfortunately we don’t have a culture in NZ of producing top quality, technical halfbacks. We tend to favour guys who are great footy players, but who are a bit small, and then squeeze them in there. Every 30 years or so a Bachop or a Smith comes along but we really struggle to produce decent 9s consistently like other nations do (thinking especially countries like RSA, France and Wales here). A shit halfback is like having a shit forward pack - just kills everything at the source

And when people identify a suitable candidate to replace Smith, he gets no gametime.

who else is available in the loosies?

I see no reason to not invest in TTT as much as possible

        ALB is needed of course

And some help out wide - both Alaimalo and Stevenson are missing?

@gt12 Is there a six in the squad?

Depth is poor this year (worse than recent years), and it's really showing.

Boshier was good pre-covid. Post-covid, not so much.

I don't have a problem with that card. Clearly offside at the lineout and on a team warning for too many penalties.

                    Or a decent 8.

Flanders just resgined with the Canes otherwise he would have been a good pickup for these positions.

I don’t know with Jacobson out.

We put some size and quality on and suSeemly get some go forward. Why the fuck is Alaimalo not out there for minute 1? He’ll piss off if we don’t play him.

Yep, Weber fucks around at the back of the scrum and then it’s promptly knocked on.

Does Webber know his primary job is to pass to others?

@antipodean although TBF, when TJP took off was a prime chance for him to take a quick dart into that space.

BUt jeez, the chiefs need to put name tags on each other

The Chiefs aren't a bad team. They have good players. I think they're just coached badly.

Tupaea is completely out of sorts at 12, which makes sense as he is not a 12. Why would you not play Nankivell there?

Tupaea has been missing in support every time Cruden has made ground or created space.
