@antipodean unfortunately, he was at 8.

Made to look average by an old bloke and one made of glass.

I get the feeling the tahs didn't make the playoffs.

I enjoyed that. I was worried Waikato was going to pay for Luke being too conservative taking penalties.

DMac and ALB's first win in a while. 🙂

Thomson looked really old and slow when TJP and Savea skinned him from the scrum.

It was a poor reaction and Waenga being in the way didn’t help either.

Don’t know the stats but Thomson seemed to be the go to at the LO

@ACT-Crusader The problem with Thomson is that he should be playing lock but the scrum struggled against Taranaki when he was there. It will be interesting what happens when Messam is available.

I will give Thomson credit for his try. Great hands.

I am happy with both Waikato halfbacks on debut. They offer something different.

As a biased Wellingtonian that game was absolutely pathetic as stated earlier no cohesion between anyone JGB outplayed by Smith looks like the Canes resigned the wrong 10 but well done Waikato...mind you last year Ta$man tore us apart 1st game.

crikey if you had told me before the game that the mooloos were going to put 50+ on wellington I would have had your head examined.

    Even TJ looked average

Did Savea J get subbed after his try?

If only his play today matched his mouth, he would’ve got MOTM.

Any news on Ayden Johnstone's injury?

Further to this question, I assume he has some concussion symptoms after going off in the NI vs SI game.

Just finished watching the recording of this.

    Have not read the thread.

Entertaining game. Afternoon rugby. Who knew?

Based on the personnel had Welly winning easy

    But yay the good guys.

EX-avier* Roe looks handy. What's his back story? Age group?

*So cool to have X as your first initial I reckon. Was keen to name first born Boo Xanthe but Mrs Boo blocked that as she reckoned too many people would mis-pronounce as Ex-anthe (like I have with "Zavier" above). But I digress. Young fulla looked good though.

@booboo I think Roe is 21. Spent 2 years playing for Taranaki. He was great. Also noticed the commentators say Ex-avier.

@booboo Roe played for the NZ U20s in 2018. Both Roe and Ratima (reserve halfback) went to Hamilton BHS. the latter replacing the former in the 1st XV. Both still very young.

    Drive it Waikato!!!

Such a shame that with this being potentially the best NPC in decades with ABs being involved that there are no crowds so it will be hard to see just how popular it is.

First time in years and years that I have set aside time to watch a NPC game

The Lions for a team with so many super rugby players have very poor in terms of accuracy and attitude, it’s almost like met in the car park for the first time..,deserved to come 2nd today ..

Well they did get beat by Manawatu last week so it can hardly be much of a surprise that they got dawlked by Waikato yesterday.

Another blow to the union's struggling financially.. Defo felt like a good crowd would have turned up yesterday.
Getting fucking bored of all the impacts on sport because a handful of people have covid

I was told that they could only have 200 people in attendance yesterday. That seems low compared to other games but was dependent on the number of entry points to keep bubbles separate.
