I was pleasantly surprised I thought the AB laden Auckland side would have too much for us especially after they scored the 1st try, very proud of the effort the boys put in

Auckland tight 5 dominated, Ruru needs to be kicked out, Wellington kicking game was on point, Trainors positional play was terrible.

Yeah Trainor was struggling with positional play. Wellington obviously spotted that during the week and exploited it well. I was expecting an early sub.

Ruru needs to be dropped, he's getting worse. Tusitala is ok but agree with @Dice its time to look at Funaki

Choat was great. I presume Gibson will be the 6 in the AB-less pack. The season will hinge on how well whoever gets the nod at 8 goes and what happens at halfback

Yeah I was getting tired of the anti-Ruru stuff at the beginning of the game, but he was fricking terrible. Time to draw a line through his name.

Trainor cost us the game though, and I'm a fan of his. We never recovered from the early kicks that exposed him badly. And even the ones he did take he was running in from miles away.

Dumbest moment of the game as Sotutu's quick tap. That cost us a yellow card, and potentially a PT/Try and be only one score behind. Who know what could have happened with an increase of pressure on Wellington, as they were giving away an avalanche of penalties.

Right result anyway, we got blown away.

@Frank I would say PUJ for the second time this year, however, Ioane's performance was nothing to be sneezed at. Both players are in fine form.

PUJ is the sort of player than never seems far from the action.

@Frank and I'd say Reiko. He was a shining light for the blues, dangerous all the time. PUJ played well but minus the try (which was laid on a plate) he wasn't a standout.

@Bones yeah but neither was Ioane. Both players were solid for their respective teams yesterday without being spectacular.

                    @Canes4life

                    I'd agree, edge to PUJ

If Welly could ever find a front row that could scrum, they would be such a better team.
Seems Welly and the Canes always seem to start poorly then pick things up from my memory.

@Darren to be fair both of our Super Rugby loosehead props (Xavier Numia & Fraser Armstrong) will be out for a good chunk of season which doesn’t help.

If we can get them back soon I expect our scrum to improve rapidly.

Funaki to start (with Hickey at 10), Gibson 7, Choat 6 and Reidlkinger Kapa at 8.

Took me a week, but I finally figured out why we were so bad.

It's a conspiracy. Ieremia and Tiatia played the long game and prepared us horrifically, so their mates in Wellington could get up. The last two years have just been setting up for this ...

oh, so clear in my head now, it all fits together. WAKE UP SHEEPLE 😛

it's too late. They've got the board behind them ... this conspiracy goes All.The.Way.
