Captains referrals are awesome...said no one

That should have been a PK for offside. If the Chiefs captain was paying attention they wouldn't have needed the scrum PK.

If the ref had been paying attention they wouldn't have needed a captains referral. 😉

O'Keeffe has to take as much blame for ignoring that missed lineout offside. It was so obvious to see for those of us in the crowd.

Who would have thought the Chiefs would be here, staring at the prospect of a final. I thought the Chiefs were due to lose a game and whilst I always had faith, I thought this might be the game. I was silent with my hands on my face for the final 5 minutes at the game, until DMac got the kick. Messy game though. Would be nice to have Trask back.

These crap exits drive me crazy

Frustrating eh. There was one exit in the 1st half where the ruck was inside the 22 but Weber passed again, and the next ruck was outside so they couldn't kick the ball out on the full.

@stargazer the organisation is a joke. It’s been hard enough being a Canes fan all these years but this is a new low. Even worse is the Canes have essentially pulled the big middle finger to the fans by extending the coaches contracts for another two years. They are rewarding poor performance which will manifest into low standards going forward, something that I’m not willing to pay money for until it changes. #hollandout #bunchofclowns

I’m the same but unfortunately my cousin is coming down next week and I was pressured into going with her as she loves the Canes and never been to a game. If I had to pay for the tickets I definitely wouldn’t be going.

@canes4life Rayasi worries me, he disappears for large parts of games.

As opposed to Savea who disappears for entire games?

See what I mean about Rayasi, he is just not putting himself into the game, I will be suprised if he starts next week after that performance, though I not sure who else we got as I would rather it not Savea either.

Rayasi was far more involved that Goosen in this game

Goosen looked very off this game not his usual energetic self

I thought that too Mikey. Regardless this seems to be norm for Rayasi, which pisses me off because he got so much going for him.

Kirifi really does look like a poor short mans Ardie Savea. He has been ineffective, Boshier showing why he should have been on the plane last year.

    Fixed it for ya.

We’ve been lucky to get away with a terrible line out and a poor exit game. Some of those kicks and options from Weber had me ready to throw something at the TV.

The scrum is going well though, which is neat, and our two young 6/locks are going well. We should be in good shape for next year with BBBR back.

We might/should final which is a great result. We’ll lose but overall its been a great season in comparison to last year.

Do we still have a negative points differential? I think we still did prior to the game which really shows how close we’ve been to us having everything go the wrong way as it did last year

Yeah some of the young players benefitted from the pain of last year and that experience. Ross is back to 2018 form and Norris has really improved in the scrum for a 21 yr old. Moli back in the mix at some stage.

    -23 PD.

The Blues need 6 pts from their last 2 games to pip the Chiefs so a loss to the Crusaders without a losing BP helps the Chiefs. The number of wins is the first tie-breaker and the Chiefs have 5 wins to the Blues 3.

There seems to be a ref conspiracy to see how high they can get the Chiefs on the ladder! Reckon Bryce has been caught in an uncompromised position in a Hamilton establishment.

Comgratulations to the Chiefs and their fans. Enjoy!

Not going to lose my shit or anything. Sometimes the breaks go your way and sometimes they don't. That's Rugby Football, that's life.

The lows are part of being a fan. The lows make the highs higher and sweeter.

Tough loss, tough season, tough times, but some time the Hurricanes will be back. Yellow and Black till I die!

Well put sparky and I with you! We not just Cane's (or any team) supporters in good day, but you got to ride the hard times. And f*** the negatives buggers, I still cling on to the positives, and think we maybe a Jamie Booth and a couple more years experience in Reuben Love to actually be an ok team!

I will add something else to match thread, DMac is playing so bloody well, and believe me this is never accidental, listen to what Weber says after the game, last couple of weeks, DMac does a lot of extra work, that's what makes special players!
I have said time and again, when I was at test in Brisbnae between ABs and Wallabies, the first two players on field about 5 minutes or so ahead of rest of tem, Richie McCaw and Dan Carter, they were warming up and DC was kicking etc, noone gets that good without the extra work, and think DMac confirming it,

So after letting the dust settle from last nights performance I just have to say well played to the Chiefs, Dmac coming up clutch and may I just add he looks bloody dangerous when he slots in at 10. Please please please knock over the Crusaders in the final, assuming the Blues lose tomorrow. 🙂

Just had a chat with former Canes prop Reggie Goodes down at a local cafe this morning and asked him what he thought on last nights performance. I was surprised by his honesty because he mentioned we were far too light in the forwards and probably lack a little too much experience to win those big moments. Take from that what you like but he’s not wrong.

I also asked him what he thought of the young props and he felt those guys (Numia and PRS) are probably a year away from hitting their straps but were two of the strongest kids he has seen.

@canes4life And the Canes re-sign the coaches for two more years. 🙄

I don't think the officiating has cost the Canes any games. What is mostly missing is good decision-making, execution and discipline. That's due to lack of good leadership, inexperience of some players, and some players just not being good enough. The blame for that is mostly on the coaches, who sign the wrong players and select the wrong match-day 23 each week. This is a problem at all levels in the Canes, you saw it in the U20s, too.

The whole organisation needs a spring clean.

Wake me up when the board and the current coaching team are sent packing 😴

In their defence the team came close for the last 2 weeks (against the current 1 and 2). They ballsed up badly at first. But losing Savea was a big loss. My main concern is they will lose their key players for next year. But if they can hold onto them (esp Barrett) I won't be too harsh on them. And strengthen first. One starter and a injury phone (maybe just bad luck?) backup is poor planning

I think the lack of experience was evident last night when the game was in the balance. The up side I guess is that when you have those heartbreak last second losses you can probably learn from them more so than a win. Without Ardie in the side it probably would’ve been more ideal to have Coles closing out the match.

@bovidae Not a fan of player cam at all, but quickly reviewed this one. The work he does off the ball is astounding, including tempting the opposition to kick into space, then getting into that space to collect cleanly. He also sprints to cover breaks and to confuse opposition, using his pace to great effect. Mesmerising stuff. Took a few years, but I get the feeling his team-mates now have a good idea of what he is going to do, especially given the constant communications.

@nostrildamus not quite the same top end velocity to my eyes. But his fitness is superb allowing frequent high pace bursts to get into a position that threatens the opposition. Quite a different style to Jordie who is far more orthodox.
