Seriously tho I reckon if I could get to 7 minutes that is probably acceptable - going at more than 6:00/km is starting to push it as a 44yo with no ambitions to play pro rugby.

@NTA thats always a good one, you are 'killing it' at the moment then!!

I was just happy that I could beat TR Jnr...right now, thats one of my biggest goals in most stuff I do, just to keep ahead of him, cos I know the moment he gets past me, I wont catch him again...

@taniwharugby problem at the moment is I'm back out to 106kg so not in the best shape for mobility, but the extra padding will help my scrum work, though I get the feeling I'll be playing a bit of hooker this year.

Walk on Sunday as I was feeling a bit shit and needed the fresh air. Kind of bloated and meh - stepped on the scales Monday morning at 108kg  and think maybe the Saturday session with the boys on White Rabbit Dark Ale didn't help.

Bronco Monday night was rubbish - 7:39 which is a significant step back. Followed with rugby fitness training which helped clear the head.

Tuesday gym - first time in a few weeks so the legs are still feeling it. Chins, squats, sled (100kg), bench, and some work for the back and shoulders on the cable machine. Followed that with 500m on the rower in 1:55

Wednesday was a short session at rugby - basically after having to organise everyone else's shit, I ended up with 10 minutes of fitness and then 15 minutes of scrum practice.

Today is recovery day as the squat DOMS started to kick in lunchtime yesterday, and scrum practice did not wash out the lactic acid...

Monday fitness training - as I've mentioned elsewhere we did a warmup called "I Can't Feel My Legs":

At one tryline: 50 squats and 20 lunges per leg. Run to the other tryline, walk back. Times 3.

By the third set, the other 40+ hooker and I decided it should be a team effort i.e. 50 squats / 20 lunges between us. Smart.

After that we did some ball drills and then this cool attacking drill: 5 players on the tryline get a ball kicked to them and come up against a line of 3 on the 22m and then a line of 2 on the 40m. Just awareness and option taking, plus running lines.

Total Monday was 3.37km in just under 29 minutes, not including touch.

Legs still feeling it, but I fronted up Wednesday for more, and went a bit lighter. On Wednesdays I have to leave early to pick up Miss TA from dancing so tend to get in a bit on the warmup and then do club shit for half the other time. As it was, including some touch footy to warm up, I got 1.3km in over half an hour, with a lap + sprint to finish. According to Strava my top pace was 03:54 or just over 15km/h...

A few games of rugby recently - playing or refereeing - but not much else. Have tried but motivation is low and I keep finding reasons not to.

              Anyway, I'm a fat fuck.

Last night I was helping the women's 7s coach at the club run some drills - I had no intention of training so was wearing runners instead of footy boots. I tried to step back into a running line on a switch, did the splits, and something went "pop" in my left knee. Instant pain there and some strain up through to the groin.

While I was still warm it was OK, if a bit loose.

This morning it is problematic. Can still weight bear but clear the joint has a lot of swelling on the side and anterior when I try to bend.

Dr Google says MCL or meniscus tear. Anecdotal evidence says the fact I can feel pain is good, and will mean a shorter recovery time. Up to the medical centre this morning to get some scans organised, then physio once the swelling goes down I guess.

Fark. Sorry to hear that. It’s amazing how fragile you can get at 40 plus. Absolutely sucks.

Hope you have a speedy recovery and can get back out on the perve paddock.

Actually just on that, are female rugby players worth a gander? This is 20 odd years ago but my club had a women’s team and they were, to put it mildly, a rough bunch. We had props who were prettier. But obviously there is much more participation since then.

On behalf of all female rugby players I’m extremely offended by such blatant chauvanism.

But yeah, @NTA any worth a hoon ?

@rancid-schnitzel putting aside the fact I'm a desperate 44yo married man: I can objectively say there is not a single one of them I'd knock back.

They're all early 20s, fit as fuck (remembering this is 7s), fair-to-gorgeous, and unburdened by the fucking bullshit that middle aged women carry around with them.

The last point is probably the most important when it comes to attractiveness.

The 7s factor would make a difference for sure. I must say, you paint a pretty attractive picture and I understand why you make time in your busy schedule to share your expertise. Have you ever even played 7s before?

                            @rancid-schnitzel a couple of corporate days 😬

The true shame of this injury is my lack of ability to contribute to the refereeing of a women's tournament this Sunday.

It is the highlight of my month.

Yes. Women playing rugby have seen the light and do not need to be classified with other women. They do stuff, they listen to stuff. Even from men (if they know what they are talking about). It's excellent.

They don't fucking back chat ......and for the most part take on board what you say.

Are you certain that they are women?

Yes. But as I stated above: they're not middle aged women who think they know it all. For 14 minutes at least, they respect authority as they learn the game

Fuck sakes I've been in the top paddock while this lockdown malarkey has been going on.

Stepped on the scales at 108kg. I was aware of the weight gain due to increased drinking and eating with lower activity in winter, but this is fucked.

The last few weeks I've been stepping up the physical side of things - have walked 32km so far this month at a good clip, and run another 3km at a fairly average pace for a funt.

So I'm back to watching the portion sizes, sugar, and other crap. Drinking will be present, but limited. Chest/waist/hips are poor reading at 117/115/116cm respectively, and those numbers are more important than the scales.

Want to train up and lose a bit of pork in order to go hiking once lockdown ends tho, so this month is key for setting the scene. Aim for about half a keg per week until the end of november, in addition to the first couple of kg falling off as they usually do.
