I'M DOING THE AUCKLAND MARATHON!!!!
-
Good day to you all.

It's been a weird couple of weeks of training due to injury and some freaky medical happenings.

So a quick summation of my training for the past two weeks.

12 Aug 48mins Easy flat INCOMPLETE. I didn't even attempt this run as I was resting up my calf muscles upon good advice
13 Aug 42mins Hills COMPLETE but ran 48 mins up and down hills and I managed 8.2 k's which is smoking quick for me and these hills are steep and long so I was particularly pleased with this. No muscle pain either
14 Aug 48mins Hills COMPLETE Just couldn't stop running as I ran for an hour knowing that I should stick to the plan but I had so much extra energy and just didn't want to stop. Love that feeling
16 Aug 120mins Hills INCOMPLETEÂWas going really well and running up and down hills and then on the flat and then after 1 hour and 28 mins I felt my calf start to go. I imediately stopped and just walked on home. Was fairly miserable as I thought it was going to be a real issue for training. I was going so well too and enjoying the run.

So not the happiest of times or me especially since on the Monday I had acute chest pains while at work and had to go to A&E. This hasn't been resolved properly yet either and freaks me out so I didn't do a single short run this week at all. I have been to my GP and he said that it is probably nothing and just a muscle straing as the ECG wasn't too bad and the blood tests were ok except some enzyme that is raised but that is probably due to the training. So off to the Cardiologist on Tuesday to confirm it all.

All that said I was allowed to do my main run on Saturday which was 2 hours and 24 minutes. This was amazingly succussful in some ways. I had no muscle or chest complaints which is a real bonus.

I did the run in Wellington and ran from the city and around Oriental Parade to Shelley bay. Beautiful run but in gale force winds!!! Also managed to run the 1st ten k in 60 minutes as had the wind behind me. I have a fairly strong grip on the world but the wind was that strong i was blowin all over the place and when I had to run back into it, it was that strong it pushed me backwards at one stage so there was a bit of walking on the way back. Nice to have run 20 k's though!!

Sorry for the dull write up this week but I was fairly flat all week and highly stressed with the chest pain. Hopefully all is good though. I will be running again on Tuesday and it's an easy week with only a 90 min run on the weekend JOY!!!!

Chin up and all dear readers

Lots of Love

Sounds like an interestint two weeks to say the least!!

Amazing how quick they can run mate!!! Staggering that I probably couldn't keep that pace for 500metres -
fuck yeah, around the mountain at Mount maunganui is 3300 metres. Takes me and the Mrs about 20 mintues on a good day 21 on a not so good day. Those batards would do two laps and still finish in front of us.

but can they prop a scrum eh? Eh? -

THey cancelled the Auckland Marathon? -
No and No!!

My Ticker is tip top!! Strong one might say.

No idea what the chest pain is but my heart is strong. Did a magnitude of tests and I'm laughing.!!!

Had a beer, ciggie and pie to celebrate..................... -

Bugger off. I mean no. but I will support you every step of the way...

What weekend that? The family moving to Whangamata (at last) on Sept the 19th (that weekend). Mrs was keen to run the 10k, but think she'll be working. If she can get that off and run the 10 or the 5, I'll join her.

But half - there are two chances of that, and Slim just left town... -
Hmmm, zero training, and run a half marathon - it is the sort of thing I used to do in the good old days (got on the piss one friday night in the days of the Hamilton to Whangamata bike ride, me and a mate then did the ride the next day. The two who were in our 'sag wagon' drove past me on the final whangamata hill when I was writhing in the ditch with cramp to die for in both calf muscles, so I did finisih it, after a half hour break and 200 gallons of water. Lads were sitting in the pub having a beer when I got in, top blokes)!!!

But no, not this time soldier - maybe next year... :nta -
Yeah sorry. Just been too busy in the evening and weekends.

All training is complete but I have fucked me knee. Whangamata Half Marathon this weekend will be the tester.

First time yet that I have reservations about the whole marathon. After long runs it feels like bone on bone -
what are those fish oil suppliments etc that you can take for joints? That might help. And as you lose weight and there is less for the poor old knees to carry, the better it will be.

And yeah,
