What are people's thoughts on Cashmore? He's looked reasonably good for his age in the very little I've seen of him.

@bobily2 Is he a son of Adrian - or relative?

Not sure - I've always assumed he's Adrian's son, but I haven't seen anything to confirm it

I thought he looked good for the Chiefs U20s and was much improved from when I watched him at 1st XV level for TBC. One for the future.

@Chris-B He is the nephew of Adrian.

All we need to do is plug corner.

A very nicely worked try. Good of the two Northland forwards to be aggressive at counter rucking instead of defending the fringes 🙂

From our side, I just hope that doesn't secure Gibson more time lol

Despite this NPC being anything but fair, with this result we end up having 2 QFs this weekend to decide who progresses to the SFs.

@bayimports won't change anything for us, despite our coaches bumbling thier way through the past few seasons, think they are locked in until the year 2099...Southland deserve the semi spot, they look much better drilled without the quality in the squad like Northland had.

I think we should just default this last game against Hawkes Bay , we have ton of injuries and I am not sure how we are going to extra players out of Northland .
I’m sure Hawkes Bay will use it as an opportunity to roll their Dev squad .
Hoping Josh Goodhue is ok did not look good ..

That is a massive concern for him, given his history, this could be the final knock for him!

                                From newshub

Goodhue was released from hospital in the early hours of Thursday morning but is still experiencing ongoing headaches and a sore neck. He'll be taken for further scans on Thursday afternoon.

@duluth hopefully it is more due to a (minor) neck issue than another head knock!

Poor buggar, anytime he really starts getting going and putting out consistent high quality performances, he gets injured.

I find it really hard to judge Gibson as BOP coach so far - given how many changes there have been in the squad of 23 and the other mitigating factors. After all, beat Canterbury with a bonus point and Ta$man beat Wellington and Otago beat Waikato and it looks like we get a home semi-final*

                                    • that may be a bad interpretation of the very strange looking ladder.

@kiwipie if you look at the number of young personal in the current team its actually quite impressive..
I had quick look at the team list that played in the semi final last year and wow ..!,only about 3 players from last night in the starting XV,
The investment in young and local talent starting to show ,so for me given the injuries and disruptive season Gibson gets a pass mark

What an embarrassment this team is sometimes. We turn with a gale force wind only three behind and absolutely cake it. BOP were below average last night but we still couldn’t ram it home.

Got to wonder why the NRU still accept mediocrity year after year. We should be up there with the other regional teams similar to us, but we still look like a hybrid Heartland/bottom of table championship team most times.

The Waikato game showed a glimpse of what we can achieve on a consistent basis with some good coaches.. and good on field leadership. It’s never been about talent for us, it’s about kicking that laid back Northland attitude to touch for good.

@kiwipie On one hand... I think the case against Gibson was that earlier in the season - pre-injuries and disruptions - one of the strongest 'on paper' Steamers squads I can remember - and with good offseason recruiting - looked a significant step down. Down on both last year's team, and on their paper potential.

On the other hand... perhaps ironically, where he has brought it back is that the team has looked relatively better (or at the least more committed) with some of the younger/raw players coming through over the last few weeks.

I suppose it's hard to tell whether some of the early season form was the coaching, or perhaps 2-3 of the senior players carrying an injury into games, or maybe even attitude in one case. Tricky from the outside, especially with zero news about injuries from the Union as always...
