Not a bad game. Rust from both sides. Can't be upset at that as a Chiefs fan. Game slowed down when Gatland came on. Roe was pure class.

Fakatava looked a bit slow when in space. Hope he was just cantering otherwise that could hold him back for higher honours.

Coming of an ACL injury can take a while to regain burst (if at all).

@gt12 Ollie Norris seems to have a lot more upside at LH.

Without reading the match thread yet I was going to post just this. Norris also adds a lot around the field. Good that he got his dropsies out of his system last weekend.

There was a BIG difference in the scrum between the starting and reserve props. When Ross is back I would decide between Moli and Ta'avao at TH.

Ok so I'm pretty sure the highlights I watched had fans attending the BCs v Proteas so why no Rugby fans?

Good question. Because the rugby players are in a bubble but the cricketers aren't?

@gt12 I'd like to see Thompson too, probably next week. The problem is that his lineout throwing is worse than Slater's. In the preseason games Thompson relied on either a short or quick throw.

Happy that McWhannell got through 80 mins in his debut (3 years later than it should have been). He did well in the kickoff receptions but was hardly used in the lineout.

I know Thompson is a shit thrower, but Slater is so bad, that why not give Thompson a go?

Slater has improved, as his throwing was generally good for Taranaki. I don't blame him for all of those lost lineouts. Retallick clearly lost his in the sun. I do think there will be rotation amongst the two backup hookers.

No comment on the game ... just started watching the game now.

But fark is that ground a promotional video for NZ tourism?

That shot straight down the ground (Josh Ioane's first shot at goal) is fucking surreal.

Fuck, times like that I miss NZ.

The athleticism of the Chiefs forwards was the difference. Lots of go forward there. Norris and Mcwhannell add heaps. Roe and Ioane combo was slick again as was the triple threat with PGS. I thought Narawa was OK. But Slater throwing and Gatland passing are clearly work ons. Highlanders did well competing and their midfield looked dangerous.

Rugby has chosen to isolate themselves for the early weeks to lessen the risk of not starting the comp.

Bit of perception vs reality for you. In QT at the mo. Pissing down all day til KO. Fuck all open cause of fucked up covid isolation rules. No people here. Game of footy in involving my fav team. Poked my head over fence went meh sat in pub 2 mins across gave it a sideways glance on the telly.
    Whole thing is fucked

AB selectors should be keeping an eye on Roe and Nankivek for national honours later in the lesson. Class acts. Cane and Retallick go well too for old fellas.

The NZ sides all look like slightly better versions of Wales. We're going to need to find more grunt and bulk up front from somewhere to be confident of getting past France, Ireland, South Africa and England in the RWC next year.

Yeah disappointing, game seemed very much there for the taking by the 'landers, just opportunities not taken and some very dumb play at times, especially most of the penalties.

Would've been nice to see the Chiefs first try called back for the very conspicuous obstruction by Nankivell, seeing as we then had one later in the game for what was (at first) a very inconspicuous knock on.

Is Paea good at NPC level? Because people seem to rate him and yet any time I've seen him play, he's cake. Him and Lentjes both with some yuck handling just as we were strating to look dangerous.

Stevenson dropping the shoulder into Dawai's head and then the ref saying "he's just a wing" .....nice.

Nice win Chiefs - some bloody lovely sweeping movements to get points and Roe is stepping up very nicely. Liked Sowakula's hurdle over Smith for that try.

Oh and lastly - who is Mole-ee?

DLB, TUJ and Dickson have certainly bulked up, although not sure it was a good move for Danmoobs LB, he'd only just come on when he scored and then was hitting the ground like he'd been on for 95 at every stoppage.

    Actually almost forgot.

That guy Hunt would make a great 15, if only we had a classy 10 to step in so we could shuffle him back.

While we're at it, could do with a midfielder or two to lead the way in place of Paea...if only we could have got a naki second five...
