I'm not really sure how that ruck where the ball came free should have been refereed, but Smith inadvertently kicks it and I am not sure he came through the gate. Still good play by the Highlanders to take advantage.

Makalio was so isolated on his first carry , at least 3 WF players over the ball ..
Smith retreated from offside position thru the turnover ruck and played the ball with his foot
And then a very suspect forward pass from Mikaele Tu’u to Harmon ..

Yes, the law says a kick from open play. So I think the referee got that one right.

Yeah, it's inadvertent, but you still can't kick the ball. I'm not sure if Smith was actually offside either. I don't think it was clear cur what the call should have beem.
