Well done Waikato, played the tidier game this evening. We were our own worst enemy at times and really need to work on set piece areas.

Northland teams of the past would have rolled over and got pumped, but this side has more resolve and will get more wins, including one or two bigger scalps hopefully.

Changes I’d like to see for Wellington would be Jack Goodhue(if available) starting in the midfield with Tua. Ranger makes way too many bad decisions these days for my liking, he’ll always be one of the greats, but his time has come and gone. I’d drop Leilua and have Macilai and Murray on the wings. Not sure what the persistence is with Leilua..does some crazy ass shit at times and it costs us. He can never stay in alignment on defence.

Up front, if Ofa is available I’d have him in and Matich back in the loose trio somewhere (perhaps for McNamara).. other than that I’d stay as is.

Overall pretty happy because on evidence tonight we can play like crap and still have a shot at winning.. onwards and upwards.

Ignoring result so far as only 35 mins in ...

.... but Sinkinson ... what relation to Paul? Big part of beating International touring teams in the day?

@J77 your boys definitely created enough opportunities which was good to see, just lacked a bit of class to finish off.

Thought DMac wasn’t too bad. He just doesn’t seem a natural 10 to me, but he is a high skilled player and fearless.

@booboo believe he's the brother of Brody McCurran who came out of HBHS and has played for Kobe for around 8 years.

Tu’ungafasi was a big loss pre match , i have no doubt he would have made a difference on the loosehead ..
Just speaking to the Tani boys at the end of the game , just disappointment with their set piece scrum and lineout ..
3 props out at the minute dont help , Jared Adams and Conan O’Donnell set to return next week ,Chris Apoua still 2-3 weeks away

@J77 agree with all of that. Some odd substitutions going on too. What’s with taking Reihana off at 50 mins? The backline looks laboured when Hawkins comes on. And then not subbing Ranger earlier and taking Tua off. Can’t work it out….

@Steven-Harris he looked pretty pissed coming off, so either for an injury or being subbed for a 9...?

If he is, I'd like to see them run Goodhue at 12 and Murray at 13.

@Yeetyaah I tend to agree, missed a lot. I tend to agree, both teams benefited from this at various times. His AR's were no help at all, in fact only made calls against the visiting side...

@OleOleOle well if they had looked at the Waikato try, they'd have seen he took it in front of the mark (not by much) but looked in front form where I was sitting... 😉

Agree, they missed alot (multiple forward passes, side entries at rucks, not straight lineouts, all both ways)

@taniwharugby I agree, can't believe he let them get away with that tap. Not sure the try that was ruled out by the TMO came from a pass that went forward out of the hand so swings and roundabouts, maybe...

I thought that Northland were lucky to only be penalised in that Waikato lineout drive.
