I'd say it's more that talent is stockpiled elsewhere. Blues have talent that can't get on the field.

Absolutely carved up for NZ U20s last year vs Aus but struggled a bit in the NPC.
I’m glad they are giving Hotham a good run tonight because we need options at halfback big time.

Yeah, weird situation. Players would rather sit on the bench elsewhere rather than play for the Highlanders.

This performance of the Highlanders is a massive problem for NZ Rugby moving forward.
Shows up the total lack of depth propping up a 5th team at this time -
