Second week in a row where I've thought Blues haven't missed much with Plummer at 12.
Doesn't bode well for RTS' AB hopes.

I thought Plummer was a bit of a lynchpin really. Tidied up a lot and really helped keep the backline running smoothly.

Those college kids that just called Ricatelli and Barrett over to sideline were their Franci Douglas college 1st XV, where Barrett and (I think) Ricatelli went to school.
They were all at the Blues captain's run and got a lot of time and tips from players.
@Stargazer Excellent, I was actually watching them play here in Hawera a couple of weeks ago, against the local 1st XV, before they left on tour

I was a bit bemused watching aftermatch show from Melbourne, Horan and co were really singing the praises of Barrett, now I thought he went well in 2nd half etc, but wasn't didn't think it quite earned the high praise that he was getting. To be honest, they at ground and can see more, and as I said we all see different things.
Other interesting thing was Rebels coach was joining in saying he thinks young Gordon will watch replay to see how he spots space, amd Dan Halangalu came on too and indicated quite strongly the cross field kicks etc in first half are part of game plan to pull midfield defence etc across. And to be fair the Rebels midfield were lost in second half, I had put it down to Blues having so much ball. They had talked to BB who kind of said he not worried as he is having fun playing etc, and they have a plan. -
@KiwiMurph 14 points lost on Beaudy's kicking would have made score pretty close to last year's demolition at Eden Park of the Rebel's.

BB still struggling despite moments of good play. Is taking the ball at first receiver while on his heels. Hardly ever taking in the line. Hasn’t worked out a rhythm for his goal kicking under the time wasting emphasis. Seems to visibly rush when the ref calls out the time left.
Signs that he’ll get his mojo back but at the moment he’s well down on confidence. -

His run up looks a little faster than previous.

The Rebels didn't have a scrum or lineout in the 2nd half.
They had a decent scrum with 3 props but their lineout fell apart and then they did.
Interestingly if you watch the Blues scrum dominance it starts when Ofa comes on. Two scrums in a row he destroys Fa’amausili by popping him. But watch closely and when he packs he’s directly on an angle, right in front of the ref who doesn’t pick it up. Riccitelli angles into Fa’amausili as well and they both pin him allowing Ofa to pop him.

Lost a starting lock in the first half as well. Substitution plan went to shit at 40 minutes.

The flukester is back.
Telea isn't express pace is he? But effective.@nostrildamus said in Rebels v Blues:

The “glue man” all good back lines need. I do think Rieko looks better with RTS beside him though ie, straight running 2nd five who can bend the line and give him some more space to operate.

I don’t many sides could weather those injuries. A pity as the 2nd half was looking like a titanic struggle.
It wasn’t the most clinical of performances and we were very fortunate the Rebels had so many injuries. However we needed that confidence booster, for Beaudy to stretch his legs a little and for the team as a whole to get some momentum going into the bye. The 2nd half of the draw looks better for Blues.

That was actually one of the aspects I was impressed with of Plummer - he really bent the line on a couple of occasions, I remember for one of them thinking I didn't know Dalton could run that fast until I realised.

Eventually getting to watch the mini match highlights now.
What's with Beaudie's place kicking?
It's always been, umm, a little unreliable, but he just doesn't seem to have any timing. Seems to be poking at it.
Why do his team's insist on him kicking? I suspect Sullivan would be a reliable option for Blues, and his bro in Black.
-
@Bones I always thought he would have been a selection for that end of year tour last year. He is pretty solid.

@booboo his body's retired two years ago. Came back for a brief 30 min cameo against the rebels, but is now probably in an ice bath for the rest of the year.
