I think that's what annoys most people. Everyone would acknowledge that accidents happen, but it's what you do next that matters, and taking photos of said broken shield and posting it on social media (even in a semi-private setting like Snapchat or a WhatsApp group or whatever) is dumb.

I suspect there's more to come too...

@Smudge Bang on, already there is talk of snorting drugs off broken shield! It just pisses me more all the time. Hawkes Bay won the shield, and because of f***en idiot players, they have already ruined an awful lot of the goodwill!!

          ‘Hawkes Coke Shame.’

Hard to see this ending well for the HB boys.

Wow, way to taint a great win with disgusting behaviour. NZ Rugby need to take the Shield back.

I guess the claim will be that it wasn’t one of the players but hard to believe none of the players were present when someone snorted an illegal drug off the Ranfurly Shield

I'm disappointed that the Shield has been damaged, but I'm already reading too many assumptions about what happened.

@Canes4life looks to me like the remnants of some sort glue/sealant. The boys obviously trying to fix the shield after it broke.

Thats a clean break, it would have been a shoddy repair job to begin with. Dropping it on a hard surface just broke open where it was previously apart and repaired.

Im not vested in this, i just work with wood and see this all the time...carry on.

Edit: i mean wood breakages, not Coke.

Now we're doing rails of a broken log? This would be deadshit behaviour in the NRL FFS

could use glue but based on the evidence theres a good chance that would be abused as well.
