But what killed them is a tiny winger given no help at all against bombs and chasers all a foot taller than him.

Bielle-Biarrey is taller than either Arendse or Kolbe, who coped just fine, and even out-jumped taller opponents. It was often the likes of Woki who didn't take a high kick cleanly.

Maybe it was mentioned in the previous match comments but Fickou ignoring his unmarked winger which would have given France a second early try was a big miss. Scoreboard pressure.

    Kwagga Smith, what a player!

    Very handsome fellow as well.

Judging by that metric it's no wonder Liam Williams was able to keep hold of the Wales 15 jersey for so long.

Terrific first half, second half more tense than quality. Still, very good game to watch, congrats SA, hard luck France.

Yeehah. French crowd taken out of it for the final. England could take the Boks now with the right ref. The choice of officials will be important for remaining matches. I thought BOK was great today and had respect of the players.

Feel sorry for Mauvaka and the ever dangerous Penaud. Jalibert was great too. My mom was Kolbe and that chargedown pretty much decided it in the end.
    Great set of quarters!

I'm saying once France realised he wasn't coping they needed to do something either change him or get help on those bombs. Just because the other team are coping doesn't mean you leave him to sort it himself. Coaches didn't react and France had no counter. Tactically brilliant by SA but real dumb by France not to react.

Surely the WC chokers tag can never be applied to us now after this weekend of semi-finals ...

Gutted for France. But they didn't deserve it, the Boks did.

    > Amazing that Kolbe'e charge down was the difference.

Boks with an awesome backline is a scary prospect. Kolbe was unreal tonight

I said at the time that it was amazing that we didn't see a single replay to confirm whether he left early or not - other providers may have, but you'd think that would be the easiest thing for a TMO to quickly check? We check every other bloody thing!

Just cos we don't see it didn't mean it was not checked by the TMO, they do their work on their screens, not ours

Maybe it was - but if it was us on the receiving end of that, I’d be pretty dark to not see the replay, and to not hear the ref confirm that the TMO had looked at it

Anyone else spot the subtle little nudge by Arendse on the French player under the garryowen for the first try. Arendse looking up at the ball, but he runs into the French player who knocks into his teammate (Fickou?) and the ball ricochets off. Arendse mops up the mess.

Would be interested to hear if anyone else thought it was interference.

The French were able to make huge in-roads through that SA defense all game, the problem was all the passing and offloads they kept running out of support, and lost ruck ball, either to turnover, or a panicked presentation that got knocked through.

Even that last possession they got off their line, made 60m easy, then one guy got isolated and tried to throw it back, South Africa pounced.

South Africa, you cruel bastards denying France a final in their own RWC. France were so dominant early on but the Boks just hung in there.

I think I prefer the Boks for the final, it's our turn against them, plus, France in a home final might have beaten us on passion alone. But, if we don't win I would have preferred France to win.

Dupont blaming the ref, classless fluffybunny

“There’s a lot of disappointment and frustration,” said the France captain. “When we watch the match again, there are probably things that will make us even more frustrated.

“I don’t want to be a bad loser and moan about the refereeing. But I am not sure the level of refereeing was up to what was at stake today … [But] that doesn’t take anything away from the South Africans. They played a great game.”

Too late, you tool. Fans can moan, you have to take it. Esp as BOK did bloody well - and I was supporting France for that game

Someone was asking about Peato Mauvaka earlier. He, like Romain Taofifénua and Yoram Moefana, all have Wallis and Futuna links.

Agree about the French attack. It's great to watch them open opposition defences up but then frustrating as hell to see them not finish it off.

Which is awful. I know they want to keep the game moving but for fans it's just a massive mystery what's going on in the background.

I would prefer slower games but more transparency. But broadcasters must love this.

You are alone wanting a slower game and more replays etc I think. It makes no difference to us, the refs have decided so carry on. If any of us need a replay, generally tvs have a rewind button on the remote.

Well, we will just have to deal with the Big Bad Boks ourselves then.

Hmmm I am picking England to accumulate points in multiples of three and meet us in the final and English press to go crazy about how it was the right thing to get rid of Eddy

2007 all over again, where England look a bit rubbish but get the final?

Yep, nothing worse than opening them up and not finishing it off.

Or 2019 where they rouse themselves for one huge SF performance (fuck you England!) and spend themselves, leaving nothing for the Final

Yeah, three major points. Can't catch high balls, rushed/inaccurate even on attack, and like Ireland out of ideas to close a close one

I hope WR look at the cheating fucking HIAs

Yeah, the HIAs today have Rassie's fingerprints all over them

So, initially this was a somewhat tongue in cheek comment, as I thought all HIA sendoffs were from the match doctor or team medical staff. But in the post match press conference, Nienaber was asked about the PSDT HIA, and he said that the sideline is able to see things, and can request a HIA. Which they did in this case after they saw PSDT took a headshot. He actually did take a nice hit to the jaw. But Rassie's history for the unorthodox, combined with the way the Boks juggled the HIA replacements made it a little sketch.

Kolisi replaced by Fourie at 46 min, Fourie plays at flank
Vermeulan HIA at 51 minutes, replaced by Kwagga
Du Toit HIA at 62 minutes, replaced by returning Vermeulen
Bongi pulled at 75, replaced by returning du Toit. Fourie moves to hooker, PSDT to flank.

Effectively two 10 min timeouts for two older loosies if you cynically look at it, rather than the more objective medical looking out for player safety and concern for head injuries/CTE.

Not that it could ever be proven, but if it ever was proven they gamed the system i would be all for the strictest of punishments. Makes an absolute mockery of the very tenet of player safety.

I know it's all wild speculation, but Rassie is so bad for rugby. And his smug "I'm so clever" face fucks me off.
