    @Victor-Meldrew

Jamie Heaslip’s comments that the only way England can win is if Ireland go down to 14 or 13 men has aged like milk.

Comments very much in contrast to those coming out of the actual Irish camp before the game which were all wary and respectful.

Was a toss-up whether I posted Heaslip's or Stringer's comments. Bloody ridiculous comments both - and disrespectful.

Earls and Itoje (particularly on yesterday's form) would walk into the Irish squad and George Martin looks like he could be a really good 'un

Nah, if I've learnt anything during the period 1991-2011 it's that comments by any random supporter are the standard upon which a team should be judged, no matter how hyperbolic or ignorant.

So these fluffybunnies can wear it now.

Ha, speaking to a mate this morning.

Ireland knocked out QF of RWC. Soon as they play a semi finalist, they lost. Right result.

@Catogrande There are a few really idiotic Irish pundits at the moment.

But Andy Farrell's comments during the week and after the game were all class. Huge respect to him. Not his team's day yesterday but they are still a formidable outfit.

Ireland DID go down to 14 men. Just saying…

    Pfft!

I’ve been trying to dig out the Heaslip article which would illustrate better my point but can’t find it. What I will say though is if that had come from an Englishman the cries of English arrogance would still be heard.

6N commentators are the NRL commentators of the rugby world.

    That said:

    1. Italy v Scotland was a bloody good game
    2. I don't mind a bit of positivity given all the negative shit about Rugby in these parts

If they want to call it "Rugby's Greatest Championship", go for it. It probably is on a number of fronts.

Ireland lacked a bit of accuracy. England's blitz defence mostly worked because Ireland's retention game meant it had to, eventually.

Yes. Ireland with yet another cynical hold on on the line. Punished!

Didn’t even let go AFTER the ref told him!

Just sourced the Heaslip quote. He actually said, for England to win Ireland would have to go down to 14 or 13 men. Apologies for the previous mis-quote.

Pleased to see this diving bullshit go unrewarded, except to cement Furlong's reputation.

Would have had a look personally

I think if you are coherent enough to take a ridiculous dive, then you are probably fine.
Only reason to stop the game would be to laugh at the player milking it, then carry on.

    Thank god for Clive

ā€œAhead of this game I wrote that to have any chance against Ireland, England simply had to play with a breakneck speed that would catch their opposition off guard,ā€ he wrote in his Daily Mail column.

ā€œI honestly believe that Borthwick’s players had read my pre-match column because they were so quickly out of the blocks.

ā€œEngland’s first quarter showed they are improving. It was much better than we’ve seen in this Six Nations so far. England played well. I did wonder in the first 40 minutes if they had real belief they could win the game. But as the match progressed, that belief grew.ā€
