My knees have been cooked for quite a few years hence I hadn't been running but started again last year and they seem to be holding up ok for now! Don't want to over do it!

              Didn’t get my 4 hours.

Had a nasty cough and the course was soaked. Feet are in pieces.

Had a whole bunch of targets and I didn’t get any of them.

Hang on. I missed out a word originally.

Didn’t just get my 4 hours.

              Obliterated it.

It's fair to say that I discovered the secrets to running marathons with this one.

                      1. Music. There are many tedious parts to running for 4 hours and the uplift of a good song was really powerful. Also noted that for the last few kms, it was nice to measure it in songs too. I.e I'd skip to a good song, focus on that and by the time it's finished another km was scrubbed off. Had really good moments with Jambi, Let There Be Rock and also a couple of cracking pop songs, Chandelier by Sia & Diamonds by Rihanna.

                      2. Water. I basically needed a piss the entire run. There was 9 water stations, each with a 300ml bottle and I took and consumed from all but one. Thus, i'd estimate I took in around 2.5 litres.

                      3. Fuel. I used a combination of gels/chews and took half at 4k intervals. Thus, took in fuel at 10 different times. The constant fueling means I didn't have any super highs, but also didn't have any super lows.

A real learning experience for me & the thing I'm most proud of is that I never once stopped for a walk at any point. My fastest km was 5:11 and slowest was 5:35. Unbelievable consistency. There is a 90m downhill in Edinburgh overall, which is all in the first 5 miles. This was when it was completely bucketing down, so hard to go pretty slow to avoid slipping over. The first 2 km is the most downhill and these were done at 5:28 and 5:31 so some of the slowest times.

Two days on and I'm still incredibly stiff. Most of it is good pain, but the right foot feels like it may have a proper injury. Can't walk with it straight, it's naturally walking on about 10 degree external angle. I look like a duck. The stairs in the house continue to be an absolute killer.

Right, time to start thinking about what's next. Well, from an exercise point of view anyway. Next is a quick week in NZ to smash my Dad at golf. Luckily he's cart golf only now, so the injury shouldn't cause too many issues .... it's a ready made excuse, regardless.

Completed the Selwyn Marathon today, my 41st marathon, in 3 hours 39 mins. Nothing amazing about my time and the course is quite a dreary one doing 2 laps around farmland in Lincoln, but it's still a marathon, and beats the usual training session on a Sunday haha.

Next stop, Helsingborg, Sweden. Will be at the end of my 7 week European holiday, so my time there won't be pretty, but it's always exciting doing an overseas marathon so I'm not complaining.

Haha I've read that, and trust me, there are some people in their 70s and 80s who still run marathons all year round that I see at most events who have done about 300+ haha. I've got a long way to go to get anywhere near them!

Haven't updated this thread in a while (forgot about it haha), but I completed my 47th marathon yesterday in Wellington. 3 hours 38 mins. About my standard time these days. Hope to get to 50 by the end of the year.

My other half did the half.

Which is half more than I would ever do.

Hats off to all you crazy buggers.
