SF - Hurricanes vs Chiefs

@Canes4life Again it will come down to us still playing rugby do we play our game or do we skip playing to watch the Semi. Last week I chose to skip the quarter final to play and if I wasn’t injured last Saturday I’d probably be playing for my team instead pf going.

My mate heard on the radio that the logic for playing the Canes at 4.35pm is because Sky (being the main sponsor of the stadium) don't want the game to clash with the Warriors. If that's true, what a load of bollocks. Surely as a stakeholder in Wellington's stadium you'd want the Cake Tin to be at capacity, not many better sights in NZ when it's humming.

Lee said it was an easy “fan focused” decision to go for the earlier start, and his Blues counterpart Andrew Hore said he would have done the same. “Our fans tell us that that kickoff is appealing if you’re a family, and people can go out for dinner and a few drinks afterwards. It works out for everybody… we just think it’s a really good slot and afternoon rugby is great for the players too. “I do know the Warriors are playing Saturday night which is absolutely a part of it. It’s usually a combination of NZ Rugby, the teams and Sky (who decide kickoff times). That’s the way it’s always been and we respect that. Sky in the last two years have been more open to afternoon games which we think is really encouraging.” -

Suits me as I can take my daughter on the odd occasion which is a bonus. Looking at the stadium tickets already sold, they've already sold about 15k.

Much more beneficial to have 10 per cent more people watching the broadcast than 30 per cent more people at the stadium.
Besidea, if the Hurricanes can't basically fill Sky Stadium at 4:30 on a Saturday afternoon for a semi-final clash with another NZ team then there's a bigger problem at play.

Depends what you mean by fill - worth noting in that article the 2016 semi final Canes got 25k against Chiefs

Going through the likely match-ups next week I’ve rated the them below.
- Rakete-Stones Vs Ross = even
- Aumua vs Taukeiaho = even
- Lomax vs Dyer = adv Canes
- Delany (if fit) vs Tupou = adv Canes
- Walker-Leawere vs Va’ai = adv Chiefs
- Shields vs Finau = adv Chiefs
- Lakai vs Jacobsen = even
- Iose vs Sititi= even
- Perenara vs Ratima = even, both likely to be announced in the ABs in a couple weeks.
- Cameron vs McKenzie = adv Chiefs
- Rayasi vs Nanai-Seturo = even, on form it’s pretty even between these two.
- Barrett vs Poihipi = adv Canes
- Proctor vs Leinert-Brown = even, two form centres and both will be influential on the outcome.
- Moorby vs Nawara = adv Chiefs
- Love vs Stevenson = even
Would have been even but with no Numia it’s a slight advantage to the Chiefs. Canes being at home will discount that so this game could go either way for me.

Why stop at 15?

I genuinely think the crowd will be better for 4.30 than 7.00. We can pretend all we want, but he number of us that go to both club rugby and super is pretty small really. I Wellington it may make a difference to 1500-2000 tops, but for rest of Canes region if you going to a 3pm game of rugby, there is probably no chance you are intending to be in Caketin at 7pm realistically. Even if Whanganui ,Horowhenua etc I seriously doubt whether I would do both.

we are going with the kids because its 4.30. also playing roundball at 2.30 and making it work. went last week for the kids 1st rugby game and they loved it so back again this week. as mentioned above I suspect the family numbers outweighs those that play club rugby and would otherwise go. in the football social grades it is common for teams to agree to reschedule so as not to miss big games at the stadium, unsure if thats possible for club rugby

Part of rugby being the post-match at your club or pub so that needs to be considered as well. When the Wallabies have a test on a Saturday night I'm usually too tired from organising/playing/refereeing that day.
Sunday afternoon is a better shot IMHO

Prior to the win over the Rebels in the quarterfinal last weekend, Lakai and Iose were the Hurricanes' busiest ball carriers this year. They had made 135 and 131 respectively.

@Winger after that quarter final Lakai's carry stats would have increased by 20 or so. He's guy that isn't afraid to make the tough yards and he rarely loses the ball which is the most important thing. It also frees up space for a guy like Iose who's shown he can be deadly when given room.
The Canes next year will be even stronger in this area when Ardie makes a return. It might not happen but I'd love to see a back three loose trio of Savea, Lakai and Iose together on a dry track.

My understanding from my source is that Lomax is available this week, a huge boost for the Canes. He trained last week and put down a few scrums reminding everyone who's top dog in that area. For me he could be the difference maker on Saturday night due to his dominance.

Where did you hear that? He was running around freely at the ground on Saturday and helped lift Numia off the park. Wouldn't be doing any of that if he wasn't close to 100% fit.
