But, the Canes worked out how to beat it, play straight and hard.

If only the Blues could play that way they'd have a chance.

That's why they are heavy favourites in my eyes. Especially if ST is out they'll just roll us.

For all that I thought a few canes were really good.
JBarrett is not what some try to make out, but he is the best hard carrying midfielder in the country. Of he and DMac can gel they should create oodles of space
I thought Love was good at FB
Lakai is a weapon of an openside
That's as good as I've seen IWL play
      The front row were good.

Agree with all of the above. IWL caught me by surprise, he kept carrying hard. I like Canes midfield, their blend works. I am super pleased the Chiefs won, they played out of their skins. However you could argue the Canes would have been a different proposition with Roigard.

@mariner4life Mostly agree. But the gap in class at First Five was as wide as the Grand Canyon.

Yeah Cameron was the worst player on the park for me. Had an absolute shocker.

Barrett, Moorby and Perenara also had games to forget. Probably a few more but I’m too disappointed haha

Commiserations. Were you at the game?

Canes need to take inspiration from the Chiefs and come back next year with a focus to lift in the playoffs.

I doubt whether Sititi will amke it this year. 6, and 10 with 9 perhaps in the squad I can see.

IMO the ABs hobbled themselves over recent years by not picking obvious talent. Sititi has it in spades.
Players in this category not fully utilised by the ABs include Roigard, DMac, Finau, Paps.

@KiwiMurph yeah bro was at the game. Disappointed but the Chiefs were the better team on the day. Fair play to them.

Canes will be better for the experience. Getting Roigard, Delany, Savea and Numia back when it matters next year will help.

All in all a much better year but still disappointing to finish the way we did.

I went back and watched the 2nd Chiefs try off the charge down

                        It was entirely Perenara's fault

After the ball was charged down Perenara got possession and he inexplicably threw the ball back basically straight to Sititi

TBH it's been a stellar season for the Canes considering no one really expected them to be in the semis. Less crucial injuries and a five-eighth who doesn't conspire to fuck everything up and they'll be a considerable force for a while.

@Canes4life not surprising that the Chiefs won and will win next week. Only teams with outstanding first fives win the comp. Mehrts, Larkham, Carter, Spencer, Cruden, Mounga etc. And McKenzie will be the next.

With all of the halfback talent around I'd be bloody disappointed if we end up with both Christie and TJP in the 23. Maybe one for "experience" but definitely not both.

Yeah Riley has really lit up super rugby.

With all of the halfback talent around I'd be bloody disappointed if we end up with both Christie and TJP in the 23. Maybe one for "experience" but definitely not both.

@No-Quarter Ratima went to a new level tonight. He was extremely impressive.

@Canes4life not surprising that the Chiefs won and will win next week. Only teams with outstanding first fives win the comp. Mehrts, Larkham, Carter, Spencer, Cruden, Mounga etc. And McKenzie will be the next.
