I just saw the try the 10 bombed by ignoring the short pass and using hands, instead trying the hero ball that fucked all momentum and brought the only reds defender in to play

    Reserve grade shit

Interesting tactics, whether it was the conditions or countering the rush defense, the Reds really attacked through the middle.
Salakaia-Loto and Wilson looked busy for Reds I thought.

I didn’t comment on the penalty try, I commented on whether he should be given a YC.

In that position i.e. in-goal, you can't really have one without the other under the current framework.

And further, at the risk of ridicule, I still think the red was harsh.

It was understandable in terms of the protocol, but I still have reservations. To my mind he wasn't attempting a tackle, he ran into the line that the halfback was running, and there was resultant contact, made to look worse by slomo.

    Fire away.

Okay, I'll bite. The red was fully deserved and very similar to that of Alex Hodgman, who got a 3-week suspension. If it was just an unfortunate collision while running into the same line as the Reds' halfback, he wouldn't have jumped and directed his left shoulder towards the halfback's upper body (I assume he intended to hit him in the chest or shoulder). If he was just running, he would have kept both his feet on the ground and ran straight. He would probably have braced for impact with his right arm; instead, he used his left shoulder.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I just would like to add that Weber deserves a Razzie for the worst actor. Faking to be shocked by the decision. 👎🏼

The other thing about that play with DMac going in like that, it also exposed a hole. Poor play all round.

In regard to the young loosehead prospects the Saders have.

    What's Williams' mobility like?
Has the other one (the one with the bench press record beating Owen Franks) played any games yet?

Newell has had a few games too, they’ve both been excellent. One of the Canterbury guys can give you more details but both of them will wear black, I’m sure of that.

@derpus Hegarty was very pedestrian at 1st 5. Stifled momentum by just receiving the ball flat footed.

I thought Scott-Young toiled hard. Both halfbacks had their moments. I like the young kid that started at halfback, he’s got some talent, just needs to calm it down a bit.

Aaron Smith’s speed to the ruck and then clearance is still world class for an old fella....

Reds and Brumbies will be hard to beat esp. at home and judging by the refs' performances so far in both comps, it could really be a factor. Looking forward to the combined competition.

I think they have changed the rules to avoid club games counting for a suspension.

This was one of the changes made ahead of the 2017 SR season:

In the determination of an incident and the handing down of any sanctions, the committee will now have the ability to exclude any regular season Super Rugby byes as part of a meaningful sanction. This is a significant change and will ensure all sanctions issued during Super Rugby are treated consistently across all teams.

    https://super.rugby/superrugby/news/new-super-rugby-judiciary-process-unveiled/

It seems the Judiciary in the recent cases in SR AU considers missing club rugby games as part of a "meaningful sanction", or the Juriciary Process introduced in 2017 is no longer applied.

@nta I think it was a fair criticism of his last year but he seems to be putting in more of a shift this year. My main concern picking him for the Wallabies is a lack of lineout presence.

yep some good rugby by both. Looking like it could be an even more improved Wallaby team this year

as long as they don't fill it with under performing players from some other franchise

Would only expect Hooper out of the Tahs and Force combined

Hooper doesn't play for either this season lol

Oops forgot he is in Japan but still available for the Wobblies?

Yeah I think so, like the ABs over there

Think we have enough guys playing their hands up.

    That was a good game.

Personally although I supported Reds ,I thought game was a little disappointing. A bit pissed that refs are missing laws of the game while trying these new variations. Much as I dislike saying it no way should our(Reds) first try of been allowed under the laws that say you can only take a ball by hand and not swim back. I hope that not coming back into our game.

@nta Swinton will definitely help. Harris at 6 was anonymous.

I wonder what's going to happen with captaincy with Gordon presumably out - Sinclair seemed to take over the captaincy but he was off the bench - does Sinclair start at 8?

This was heaps of fun. I think SuperAU has really hit it's stride, five of the last six games have been crackers.

The quality has been pretty good after a slow start

The matches tend to be more of a grind than the NZ comp. So if you aren’t supporting a team I can see why some neutrals find them dull.

Maybe. It's all in the eye of the beholder. I reckon if two NZ teams produced a game like Saturday it would be lauded as 'test match intensity' by some Aussie pundits who flog themselves at anything that comes out of your place.
