NZ teams were already well ahead of the pack last year.

Add in squad and coaching personnel consistency, plus a big push from players as they strive to push their claims for the Lions tour; and what was a gap is now a yawning chasm.

What? A pro team beating on a special school's first XV?

The last two weeks are a disgraceful look for the competition.

The Rebels defence was so passive. You can't give TJP 10m of space to run into off every scrum, ruck, line out and maul...

20 years ago I sat in the stands at Athletic Park as a kid and watched the Hurricanes put 60 points on teams on consecutive weekends. Highlanders and OFS I think.

I don't know what my point is but I guess it's not totally unprecedented.

One thing I will say is that playing an inexperienced 20 year old kid at THP is a very bad idea. It's a bad sign for Australian rugby when they don't have enough senior level props.

TJP looking incredible. I reckon you have to take him over Smith on this form.

Let's wait until he plays in a game that isn't a glorified training run before we pass judgment

Our props are more valued overseas than they are here.

As I've said time and time again: this is the natural result of a complete dysfunction in the schools system.

I get a lot of shit for slamming private schools for their complete inability to deal with the problem by addressing their massive and longstanding shortcomings. You can put some blame on the ARU as well for letting the pro level get the good stuff at the expense of almost everything else.

My retort is: well fuckers, you're custodians of the game, so what the FUCK are you doing about it?

Liked Laumape's work last season with ball in hand - wasn't so sold on his D - but he has looked good in both starts this season

Would suggest that Rebels Coach Tony McGahan is about to "get the full backing of the board" if these results continue.

And with the Chiefs next, there is every chance they will. At least they'll have the Tahs to face in a couple of weeks.

As for the Canes - someone posted a stat that the first two rounds of last year weren't as fluffy as this. So its a question of consistency from there.

                      You called it.

Despite the Rebels losing their opening two rounds to the Blues and Hurricanes and conceding 127 points to anchor the ladder, Melbourne owner Cox said Melbourne coach Tony McGahan had his full support.
