Fatbusting: Kirwan's log

Jesus, a 2.24 Fran is world class. And I take 50 mins to do a filthy 50, and he takes 16.42.

Currently in 33rd in Oz, so a few places of regionals (IIRC it's top 30). He must have been training up a storm over the past year and a half. I did a google to see if he went to regionals last year, and found his placings in the 2011 Auckland Games, and he came one place behind the kid I keep banging on about from my gym in the intermediate comp. He would have been around 15 at the time too.

Had a few Crossfit Newmarketers wander into our gym, seems a good gym from what they say about it (must be hellishly expensive!) -
Kirwan, great work. You can only do what you can do-re box jumps, archilles and dodgy calf muscles. Hope those areas heal.
JK, I clicked on a few other names. WTF? this guy has a pull up MAX of 36
http://games.crossfi...m/athlete/29431
and this guy is 60 MAX.
http://games.crossfit.com/athlete/2052
Is that dead hang, full pull up, no momentum, no rest? If it is, then I'm embarrassingly weak. -

Nah bro, these guys are just on another level from us mere mortals. From your training logs you've got great power/weight - and Kirwan has been knocking out some excellent numbers. But people like Superkid at Kirwan's gym are farking machines - That Froning guy is ridiculous but I've watched a bit of youtube and he trains endlessly, plus his training is often nastier than the actual comp workouts!!

While there were plenty of more 'traditional' training alternatives I wish something in the vein of crossfit was around in my younger days. Competing with yourself and others (especially internationally) is one hell of a drug! Ask Bartman!! -
Almost certainly kipping. When you get the regional guys though, they are doing multiple dead hangs with 20kg plates hanging off their hips. So the gap won't be too large. -
And 13.3 is in; 12min time cap to AMRAP (yeah right) 150 Wall Balls, 90 Double Unders and 30 Muscle ups.

We did this as the fourth workout last year and I got 162 (12 DUs). I did a Karen recently (150 WBs) and got 10:45, but have done better in the past. If I can get it closer to 10mins and have two mins to do those DUs I have a good chance of getting 240, as my DUs have improved a lot, I can do sets of 20 pretty comfortable, and when fresh get up to 50 at a time.

I'll need a good two mins after all those WBs though.

I don't have a MU yet, so that's not a factor for me. Be good to be able to compare my years progress like this, looking forward to it. This is also a repeatable workout, this is one I improved alot last year on the second go. -

Where do all the names for the workouts like Fran, Grace and Karen come from?

Based on the content of the workouts they must be some pretty difficult women .
Glassman started naming the workouts to make it easier to explain the workouts, it's easier to remember a name than the laundry list of movements (and the cynical will say so he could trademark them). His running joke is that anything that leaves you flat on your back, out of breath, wondering the the fuck just happened to me but wanting more deserved to be named after a woman.

Then there is a series of named Hero workouts named after servicemen killed in action as well. -
Ok, that was bloody difficult. Improved my score from 162 to 215, getting through 65 of the DUs, so 25 left to go get on Sunday. Which in theory is about 15 seconds of effort, but wow it's hard to jump after the wall balls.

Took my time for Karen down to 9.37, so over a minute better than last month and first time under 10mins. Really happy with that effort, so only doing it again for fun. -
Yeah that is a massive gain! awesome work
They are going to release the video of the 420 soon (it was done on a military base), can't wait to see how that was even possible! Second place was 383, so got beaten by more than a round.
So I hear the bird who did the 420 get DQ'd due to not meeting the movement standard on the box jumps....doh! -
Yeah, not surprised to be honest. The score was so much higher than second place, and if you don't stand on the top of the box it's much faster and easier.

Still, she's obviously very fit, so it's a shame she's out for the season now. -
Oh, and I didn't repeat the workout because the next day I came down with a mild case of Pneumonia! Bit of bummer, as it means I most likely can't do this weeks workout at all.

I can do one rep of something to stay in the comp, and maybe do the last two workouts. Latest I can do this weeks is Monday morning.
