    Anybody have negative comments about Crossfit? Have seen interesting videos on them, and have friends who do that. There is one around the corner from me and I was thinking that now I have a level of fitness above sloth, I might give it a go.

      I've been Crossfitting for 2 years now and I swear by it. I used to do it 5 days on, 2 days off but now I mix it up with road running but still manage to fit in 3 Crossfit sessions per week.<br />

      One thing to watch out for when you start out is to make sure your focus on your technique rather than go hell for leather. A friend had some back issues when they first started from doing clean/jerk lifts and kettlebells. When they got fatigued their technique went out the window and caused back issues. <br />

      Other than that, it's addictive.<br />
      <br />
      BTW Owen and Ben Franks run a Crossfit gym. I saw some videos of their gym and their Dad I think was running a session.

        have watched a lot of it via youtube - some really impressive workouts and thinking behind it all imo. My new programme at the gym has elements of it (Kettlebells and squat/deadlift combos) and I find it really enjoyable.<br />

        The Bear which is making the rounds is a Crossfit workout, def agree with Mojoman that form should be your main focus - everything else tends to follow nicely after that.<br />

        It'd be mean to see the Franks Bros doing a Crossfit workout... wonder if they have elements of it in their S15/AB training?<br />

          Havent done a Crossfit class yet (I look at their website for tips all the time) but I did a 60 minute functional mini strongman class at Netfit in Penrose last year. Same concept really and it was awesome. We used sleds, powerbags, tyres and KBs. Cant remember the last time I worked so hard or sweated so much. It was brutal. Functional strength and fitness is where its at I reckon.

            love new stuff, and at the moment loving old stuff - you can't go past squats and deadlifts if you want to be strong!!

              I second the whole technique focus. Some of the stuff you see on youtube is pretty impressive, especially from the wahines doing Xfit. When you start out with the 9 essential movements, take as much time trying to get those near as perfect as you can. The key aspects of Xfit is the intensity and consistency, so when you do WOD's against time and you are fatiguing, its your consistency in technique that will see you complete all reps in a workout.
