In Maori when there is an 'ai' together it becomes more of a Nigh - like how you say Kai. I'm not sure about Samoan - maybe one of the Samoan's here can give us the correct pronunciation.

The pakeha in me would usually just say nan-eye. I remember being told and hearing that vowels should be pronounced separately (which might be why they're often written with apostrophes) but could be wrong.

I don't think Nanai has any apostrophes (which I think are glottal stops?) - but yeah, we'll have to wait on the Samoan posters to correct us.

Pronunciation can sometimes be funny. When I want to have a bit of fun with my Mum I ask her to pronounce Moemoeā. Although TBF, she can't even pronounce my father's original Maori last name.

Probably the same one that sat and watched Trainor hold it on the ground for like 10 seconds while no Auckland players attended and 2 Welly players tried to get it off him. And then only awarded a penalty.
