If I'm cheika I drop Pocock, genia to the bench, and Foley. Otherwise that team went pretty well, and they ran a good Welsh team very close.

And I hate myself for talking about refs after a game of that quality.

How many kms did AWJ run today?

Wales could do with a carrier in their back row.

            Ref was good.

            TMO was bad.

But, 2 tmo interventions and no one got a card, I'll take that.

Rest of it all washes up pretty much even. No howlers. Biggest decision - Wales could have got binned for repeated fouls on their line, but Aus scored anyway, but another 7 or 8 mins could have been left on a hypothetical yellow.

Just a small shout-out to technology. I'm in an airplane somewhere over the Ta$man sea and I'm able to watch this live via kayo and a vpn. Bloody outstanding times that we live in right now.

Just a follow-up to this. Although ok for the majority of the game (standard def, small buffering every 3 or so mins). Come the last 30 mins it slowed considerably, ended up pausing it and finishing it while waiting for my bags. So a nice-to-have but don't rely on it for the big matches.

On the flipside: Toomua got greedy with the last kick for touch. Another 5 metres back and we were still just as threatening.

Had our chances despite a reportedly shit first half, and didn't take them.

England will give us a QF exit, and I can get on with enjoying the other games.

                🤔

OR we beat England and I laugh.

Either way: expectations met or exceeded

(The part of my brain that runs a suburban club secretly hoped we would win the whole thing - makes recruiting the kiddies much easier)

I don't blame Poite - he had one of his less crap games today - but the TMO.

Big problem for me is the inconsistency between games. The penalty against Adams would have been a card in another game while it would have been play-on in another game

It's not out of the realms that we could meet again in the final.

                      Stranger things have happened.

NZ the best team on matches played and look odds on to retain the trophy, but a shit TMO led red card and even the ABs won't be able to beat England, Aus, SA or Wales with 14 men.

@MiketheSnow I'd back us to beat Aus or Wales still. Be pretty dicey against SA or England though...

Has it ever been any different? Reffing back in the glory days was a lottery at the best of times.

I’m a little more pragmatic in my older age and the way I look at it is that no two rugby games or situations on the field are the same, so comparing incidents between games is rarely a useful experience in my view.

I know it’s frustrating and fans have a platform to air those frustrations these days other than to those in their living room or pub.

Some heroes for Wales tonight. Wyn Jones 23 tackles, Navidi 15 tackles and no misses, Gareth Davies made over 110 running metres from half back.

The Welsh loosehead prop was also called Jones (imagine more than one Jones in a Welsh team). This way you can distinguish which one.

It's not the refs lack of experience, it is the changes to laws to keep tackles down below the shoulders.

While I fully understand the stupidity of some of these decisions, the IRB is concerned about medical evidence around concussions and is making a concerted effort to protect players heads/necks so that if rugby is stopped its due to silly rules rather than legal challenges bankrupting the sport.

The danger is that the dynamic nature of players colliding with one another sometimes leads to the wrong player being penalised (i.e. poor technique on the part of a player results in their team getting a penalty or the opposition having a player carded).

In an ideal world, these have come into force following the RWC but the earlier introduction shows how worried the IRB is with this issue.

Good effort by Wallabies but surely Cheika’s poor selections have to be blamed for this.

                                          Ref was good.

                                          TMO was bad.

But, 2 tmo interventions and no one got a card, I'll take that.

Rest of it all washes up pretty much even. No howlers. Biggest decision - Wales could have got binned for repeated fouls on their line, but Aus scored anyway, but another 7 or 8 mins could have been left on a hypothetical yellow.

I thought Poite had balls: after both Samoan players got red cards post-match, I expected cards left right and centre. Instead he went with penalties only, correctly IMO.

The Welsh 10 should have got a red card for his tackle technique though...
