Really bored of Gatland and increasingly the Chiefs blaming the officials every week. Yawn! It's a tiresome act he learned from UK soccer managers.

The main reason the Chiefs are 0-4 isn't the referees.

      @Bones Clearly the two best.......

      ... Nah not even close

For a moment there I thought the line was still whirring!

Stunning performance by the officials in this match, did their best for the chiefs. Was it the first penalty on Jordie for clearly coming in the side? Trying to clean Boshier who's lying all over the tackled player but no matter. Then Boshier features again at the end with the brilliant steal on Fidow, entering from almost the exact angle Fidow did.

In a game where multiple penalties in the "red zone" doesn't get you even a warning, jumping across the lineout against a team consistently throwing to the outside arm will get you a yellow card. Feel free to throw in a late shoulder charge though eh.

Jordie showed his worth...jumped ahead of McKenzie that's for sure.

      Well said!

The commentating was ridiculous too. COntinually going on about the 'threat' of DMac - who really only a threat to his team. No one is on the same page, he rushes around like a blue arsed fly, and is creating chaos but not opportunities for his team. Maybe when with the ABs more players are able to be on the same wavelength, but (like TJ did) he needs to calm down. TJ still spent too much time gesticulating to the ref for no reward, but at least he didn't try an do everything himself. Commentators same with Pita Gus, they were bigging him up everytime he got the ball, but 13 runs for 21 metres ain't great. Looks good/exciting to see him hit up but got smashed back often. Ardie, 6 runs 67 m to compare...

EDIT: Princep (21 +2 miss), Kirifi (16 no miss), Blackwell (15 +3 miss), and even Ben May (13+1 miss) were people I don't rate at all - but they stood up today on defence. Cory obviously gave them a stern talking to!

@Machpants yeah defence was excellent from the canes. I wouldn't go comparing Sowakula to Savea on runs since they're running vastly different channels. I thought Sowakula played really well and was back in the kind of form he was pre covid. Hope he develops further next year as he's a farkin big Modi.

Ardie played well but I spotted a couple of lazy "bits" that he used to do that annoyed me. A good example towards the end of the game, him and Laumape in defence out on the left, ruck is a bit bare of chiefs, Ardie tries to pretend the ball is out and nips around the back only to be rightly told to get onside. Laumape hits the ruck and nearly cleans the one chief. Wtf Savea, that's your job. Could have been easy canes ball but he was being lazy.

            Just watched the game.
I'm fed up with Chiefs passive D, and on attack lack of vision, imcision and go-forward
I'm fed up with a non-exostent game-plan and the lack of ability to change it up.
But most of all of I'm fed up with Gatland and his hard luck stories - here's a thought and a story for you Gats - get the fark back to Wales take and stay there and take your assistants with you - Chiefs were a better team without you.

Definitely plays a role. If we wanted Smith to go hell for leather for 65 and still be able to play at a rapid pace he'd be ideal for the bench.

Chiefs need to start both Te Toiroa & Alaimalo!

Get some of the forwards to do the grunt work instead of Cruden.

I think the biggest surprise of the tournament post-Covid is how shit Gatland's Chiefs have been.
Can anyone say they expected this?

It’s interesting how bad they look ,

Here I was thinking Gatland was the recruit of the year, up there with beaudy ,

@taniwharugby really brought life into the backs. Tahuriorangi looking sharp while Weber looking sluggish. Alaimalo looking like he might come back to his 2018 form.

@Yeetyaah Must suck to have such a whinging coach. Not only are you losing on the field but the coach is now also making the Chiefs look like complete dicks after the game too.

At least when you had Rennie you won the game first and then had a whinge afterwards.

My two cents on the game and I don't like to bag on the refs too much but the performance from O'Keefe was worryingly poor on both sides of the ball. (will leave it at that)

On the match itself, I felt the Canes really stood up on defence and kudos where it's due to the likes of Prinsep who made a whopping 21 tackles - if he puts in a shift like that every week then fair play to him on selection. I thought Scrafton had a blinder at lock apart from the two yellow cards (which on another day he have got away with) and Lomax was once again rock solid at scrum time. In the backs it was fairly obvious that Jordie brought the composure back into our game that was missing in the first two rounds. He helped the guys around him flourish so long may that continue. The pick of the rest for me was Kobus van Wyk who was solid with ball in hand and competent under the high ball. I was also really happy with Peter Umaga-Jensen aswell, defensively superb and proved a handful for the Chiefs defence at times.

The Chiefs, well where do we start. They relied far too much on their small men in this game and they just look like a poorly coached outfit. The frustration was summed up at half time by the assistant coach so I can't imagine the Chiefs will get too much rest over the bye week.

@Yeetyaah If that's an accurate depiction (e.g. not a second penalty during the phase), then that's shocking incompetence from the ref.

Can’t dispute any of that. Gatland going through the motions and realising that week in, week out high intensity rugby without the best available cattle is a different beast to what he is used to

The ARs should be taken to task on this as well - they're supposed to assist in marking the position of the infringement.

Haven’t seen a good still photo compilation with circles and arrows showing NZ rugby cheating since some of the Aussies left the Fern.

                                          Rugby is officially back.
